Summary: Somewhere between fighting Heartless, dealing with broken memories, and eating ice cream, he realized what she meant to him.

Understand

Xion was special.

He hadn't noticed before, but he had noticed.

It didn't seem that big of a deal when they first met. They hit it off instantly.

They would do anything for each other.

But that's what friends were for, right?

Then why did she feel like something more?

He couldn't understand it. Axel said that he wasn't supposed to understand-not having a heart and all.

He wanted a heart. He wanted to understand why he 'felt' the way he did around her.

Axel called it love.

He still didn't understand.

She was always there. On missions, beside him on the clock tower, even in his mind.

He couldn't seem to get away from her; not that he wanted to.

X

One day, she disappeared.

He looked everywhere for her; every world, everywhere.

This time, he couldn't seem to find her.

X

He's been having those weird dreams more often. He wonders if she dreams about the boy in red too.

That boy in red-he's the connection.

He never gets to ask her.

X

One day, he finds her. And eventually, they're together again.

It doesn't last long.

The countdown begins.

X

She's there again, with him, even after disappearing for a second time.

He remembers all the time they spent together-the missions, the clock tower…

She hands him an ice cream-the last one.

X

She's in his arms. Leaving, fading, dying.

She's in a better place now. Better than on those missions, and maybe even better than the tower.

He can't help but miss her though.

Suddenly, that wet stuff is on his face again.

He doesn't understand.

He doesn't understand anything anymore…

X

What exactly is love? Why did it matter?

He didn't understand love…

But pain…

He understood pain completely. There was a lot of it. Perhaps even more so than love.

He didn't like pain. But somehow, he knew he wouldn't be feeling love for a long time.

Xion was special.

He had noticed.

X

Somewhere between fighting Heartless, dealing with broken memories, and eating ice cream, he realized what she meant to him.

He just realized too late.
