A/N: Okay, so this is a bit different than my usual writing. It's a bit angsty, and pretty short. I just had to put it out there, though. :)

"There's not a star in heaven that we can't reach."

I watched as Troy Bolton "rehearsed" with Gabriella Montez. Psh. If you could call it that. All they do is talk and play around. That's not what the theater is about.

My name is Ryan Evans. Co-president of East High Drama Club. Honor Roll student. Follower of Sharpay Evans, my sister. The go-to guy for problems. And I'm secretly in love with Gabriella Montez.

The thing is, Gabriella loves Troy. She hasn't given me a second glance. I'm just Ryan, the freaky drama club boy. She's just… nothing short of amazing. Troy doesn't deserve her. She's breathtaking, smart, and gorgeous. And he's just… Troy Bolton. Lunkhead Basketball Man.

The thing is, my sister wouldn't allow it. She despises Gabriella. All because she and Troy beat us out for the winter musical. I don't understand why she cares so much. There will be other musicals. Whatever. Everyone knows she's just jealous of Gabriella.

As I watch the two rehearse, I look to Gabriella. She truly is beautiful. Her chocolate colored curls frame her almond shaped eyes and face perfectly. She doesn't wear much make-up, but she doesn't need to. She is naturally stunning.

I admit that I'm jealous of Troy. Not only does he have the affection of Gabriella, but he managed to break down the social barriers of East High. It was quite an accomplishment, I had decided. That takes guts.

I glance over at Troy and Gabriella one last time. I couldn't help but notice how… happy he made her. The way she smiled and laughed. I know that seeing her so happy should make me feel the same, but I don't. The truth was, I felt… sad.

If everything was the way they were supposed to be, she would be with me. I would be in the musical, and Troy would be nothing but a memory.

If everything were cinematic.
