Chapter 1

The moon was shinning brightly over Ryoshima Coast, seemingly casting a sort of shimmer over the land, and bathing the ocean in it's pale glow.

It was a quiet night, broken only by the occasional chirrup of a cricket, or the soft waves lapping at the shore in the warm breeze ghosting through the coast. That was until an eerie howl cut through the calm night, echoing across the sea and traveling sky wards as if seeking to talk to the moon itself.

As the cry died away, the snow white wolf that had uttered it lowered her head and opened her eyes. With a small sigh she flopped down onto the ground under the guardian sapling which now stood tall and proud thanks to her and Issun.

Issun… The wolf breathed out another sigh as her mind drifted to the little sprite, currently asleep at the inn in Sei-an City.

Resting her head on her paws she inclined her eyes sky wards to gaze out at the beautiful moon, to whom she had been crying mere moments before.

It seemed to her that lately her mind had been drifting more and more towards her little ponctan friend, and she knew why.

Although when she had first met him, she hadn't cared much for him, even found him down right annoying at times, she had come to grow quite fond of the little bouncing sprite. And it hadn't taken that fondness long to evolve into something more.

She hadn't recognized it for what it was at first though. She had thought it was only simple friendship, or even admiration that she was feeling for her little partner. It wasn't until that damn mallet had whacked her over the head a few days earlier and brought her face to face with him that she had recognized her feelings for what they truly were.

Until that point he had just seemed like another part of her, a voice inside her head perhaps, him being so small and all.

But then, seeing him magnified by about 1000 times his size, had given him a sort of realism, and it quite honestly, had left her breathless.

Of course, the fact that the sprite hadn't been wrong when he called himself 'dashingly handsome' could have contributed to her lung's momentary failure as well.

And now, she couldn't get the damn bug out of her head. And the worst part of it was that because she couldn't talk, she was unable to tell him how she felt. Not that she would have the guts to tell her companion of her feelings anyways, even if she could.

But even so, it was eating her up inside. And that night, as she lay in the inn trying to sleep, her feelings had hit an all time high. Not knowing what else to do, she had got up and left the inn and set off at a slow jog towards Ryoshima Coast and did the only thing that she was able to do.

She had thrown back her head, and cried out to the moon.

And now, here she was, lying beneath the guardian sapling, wallowing in her thoughts.

With a sad little whimper and a shake of her head, she struggled to her feet and shot the moon another glance before throwing her head back once more and letting out another howl, releasing in that single howl everything that she felt in her heart that she was unable to say.

Not far away, lying in the inn and listening to Ammy's cries, Issun felt a jolt of pain in his chest as he wondered if he'd ever be able to tell his friend the truth…
