Thoughts Unheard

Rei/Jadeite

She didn't know when it first started. It seemed like this was the way it had always been and always would be. She didn't even really pay much attention to it and just attributed it to her spiritual powers – or even her senshi powers. It was a part of her life and a part of her. If it was gone then she didn't think anything would ever be the same.

It was the voice in her head. Not her conscious that would speak up when she was being too harsh on Usagi. Not her thoughts. Not even her past memories. It was not her voice and it was not for her to control. Nor did it try to control her. In fact, none of the thoughts in that voice ever had any precedence on what she was currently doing, feeling, or thinking. She had no idea what it was.

When the voice was happy, so was she. When the voice was angry, she ignored it. When the voice was sad, she got angry and wanted to tell it to stop moping around like a puppy. But often the voice was cynical and sarcastic. She didn't mind. It made her aware of when she needed to curb her own sarcastic remarks and cynical nature. Honestly it played a large part of making her a better person, she often thought to her self.

So when the voice began to become desperate and panicked she decided she had to help…

Rei sat before the Sacred Flames focusing on the voice that she wanted to help. In order to help she had to know who the voice belonged to. Which was what she was trying to figure out. The Fire seemed to have other ideas. It constantly showed her images from before.

Normally Rei wouldn't mind learning about the Silver Millennium, but right now she had other things to worry about like-

Where is he? Why can't I find him? I'm suppose to protect him damn it!

"What?" Rei was startled. The voice in her mind and the voice that came from the image in the flames were one in the same. The only difference was the tone. In her mind the voice was panicked, sad, depressed, and guilty?

In the flames the man who paced back and forth was worried but also angry and exasperated. Often how Rei felt when Usagi was missing or late or in detention or hurt herself or…

It's all my fault. I should have been stronger. I should have done…something!

This time the man in the flames was full of remorse. His head hanging down, his back slouched over- Rei could almost feel the pain washing over her. And suddenly she knew; he's a soldier. He lost someone. Was it a friend? A soldier under his command? A brother?

Rei sympathized with this man. She knew how he felt. Was it only a month ago that she let Mercury go off on her own after a Youma, when Mars KNEW she would get hurt? She had sent her friend off knowing the outcome, and it had hurt. Rei was ok with her decision because her they all made it out. How would she be if Mercury hadn't made it…

Rei tried to send her thoughts to this man. He needed to know he wasn't alone now more than ever. When his voice came back to her, it was drowsy with worry and exhaustion.

Rei continued to search for answers as to who this man was. She continued to hear his thoughts. She always tried to save him when he began to become despaired. And eventually she realized that she had fallen in love with a man she had not met and had never seen but only heard his thoughts in her mind.

Rei never realized that she never heard Jadeite's thoughts about Mars- only his thoughts about Endymion.
