Duty Above Self

Itachi Uchiha had been thirteen when he received the ANBU tattoo on his shoulder. It was the final mark of separation from his clan. The mark of his duty to Konoha, in place of duty to the Uchiha clan. No one paused to think that thirteen was maybe too young for this duty to be placed on anyone. All they saw was the face of the clan genius, never the person who owned the face. For them, the tattoo was a sign of talent. To Itachi, the tattoo was nothing more than a farewell to the life he never knew.
