The walk is long and dark, but she tells herself not to be scared and she suddenly isn't. The power she has over others can work on herself, if she fights, and at times like this - when she's standing alone - it comes in handy.
She's Alison and she's glowing.
.
.
.
Then there's just painpainpainsomuchgoddamnpain that she glows white-hot, blazing, all her nerves and veins and skin aflame and she screams silently, still wondering who the hell has the balls -
And her brain caves in on itself and she's scared because her power is gone.
She's Alison and she's burning up.
.
.
.
It happens in reverse: hitting the ground and then the sensation of falling, and she is cold and she can't feel her toes or her fingers or anything, and she's thinking dying isn't so bad when she realizes that she's still alive. She decides she's tired of fighting.
She's Alison and she's pulsing.
.
.
.
She's always said that some things are as easy as breathing. She'd laugh now, if she could.
Breathe.
She does and then she can't.
The stars are so bright.
.
.
.
She isn't.
She's dark.
