More Than Just a Machine

Prologue

The mysterious figure stood up, dazed. He carefully examined his surroundings. He put a hand up against the wall on his left to balance himself as he tried to tell himself that his place wasn't real.

"Just… an illusion…" he muttered.

But he felt it. The urge to kill. A strong rage boiling up inside of him like a pot of water at a high temperature. It wasn't the first time he felt it. He felt it the night before. Before that, and before that one too. Though it was another night, it was still the same anger.

"How come it's only at night?" he spat.

A voice in his head responded, "you know why. It's only due to your fatigue."

"Quiet…" The figure growled. "I'm not in the mood for games; I have a task that I… have to complete."

"I am well aware," the voice chuckled.

The figured moved to wall on his right, a locked door now in front of him. He ferociously slammed his head into the door.

"Get. Out. Of. My. HEAD!" he screamed.

"Are you stupid? I can't feel pain, I thought you already knew that." The voice spoke, reaching a point of irritation.

"Neither can I…" The figure laughed maniacally; stopping himself of hitting his head on the wall. "It's only a rather odd way of relieving my stress."

"Just let me take over, you don't belong in my body." The voice sighed.

Then it hit him. A wave of realization washed over the figure.

"Ahh, I remember now." he mumbled, a smile creeping onto his cheeks.

Before he could make another rude remark, someone behind him whispered, " he's almost here. The others and I are ready to make a move."

The voice behind the figure had a gruff, strong voice. Almost like that of a pirate.

"Thank you. After this night, I think I'll go out with a bang," the figure responded, nodding along with his words.

"It's up to you," the voice behind him agreed.

"You can't do this! They deserve freedom, not imprisonment!" The voice in the figure's head screeched.

"Now since when did you have an option." The figure replied, a rhetorical question seeping from his mouth.

The mystery is rather… mysterious…

I hope you enjoyed this little teaser to what lies ahead. I also hope you forgive me for making this part really short, I'll try to make the other chapters longer. See you later!
