A/N: Last Wednesday my cousin came home after being discharged from the American military. We got enough money up to bring him home from Virginia to California. He honorably served America, going on two tours in the Middle East and earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart in his first tour. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airboune (That's part of the Army) and made up to Sergeant(E-5) for his service. Now he's home and the family is very glad to have him back. I haven't seen him since I was a little kid and pretty small(he was gone for a couple years before he joined the Army) so I'm excited to see my cousin again. Anyway I wanted to write something as a thank you to the troops so I came up with this. It's a soldier's perspective from WWII but some of the things could still ring true, I think. For those of you that have loved ones serving in the military somewhere(no matter whose Army :D) I pray they come home safely. The best thing about the journey is the homecoming.
Disclaimer: It's not strictly mentioning the HH characters but I should mention I do NOT own any of the events...if you can own events that is. The chance of me owning anything like that is like meeting Spock in person...ain't going to happen. Oh yeah there is some slight derogatory language later on concerning the enemy. Just felt right for the time period but I personally have nothing against the Germans or Japanese.
American Soldier
Today I marched to war,
the President said Go Fight,
I shouldered my gun,
kissed my girl goodbye,
like a thousand sons before.
Today I bombed from the sky,
Dresden smoulders,
Tokyo cries,
I wrote a letter to her,
like a thousand sons before.
Today I killed a man,
shot that lousy Kraut,
stabbed the crazy Jap,
I held her picture close,
like a thousand sons before.
Today I blew up the sea,
found the hidden submarine,
pumped the PT boat with holes,
I thought of her,
like a thousand sons before.
Today I was captured,
the Luftwaffe shot down my plane,
those Samurai took me by suprise,
I thought I saw her face,
like a thousand sons before.
Today I tried to escape,
dug tunnels under Krauts,
bribed a Jap to look the other way,
I got her package today,
like a thousand sons before.
Today I leaped for joy,
the Fuhrer's dead,
the Emperor surrendered,
I'm going to marry my girl,
like a thousand sons before.
Today I breathed my last,
the Germans didn't shoot me,
the Japanese didn't burn me,
My wife is old,
the children grown,
I kissed them goodbye,
like a thousand sons before.
