Wonderwall- The Tale of Eva Black- Prologue
The dimly lit court room brought with it an unwelcomed feeling with it, a feeling of dread. However, he must not let the presence deter him from his main goal.
His goal of her.
Of course, the chance that they would grant him guardian ship was slim, if not non-existent, even with Professor Dumbledore's support of his case. Still, they could not deny the legal rights that he had, albeit the fact that they were few. That was the only comfort to the man standing in the middle of the room, his head turned towards the ground, away from the Wizarding jury. This complete congregation of the highest legal representatives was a massive waste of time for something as trivial as the matter of guardianship.
Then again, it was the guardian ship of his daughter.
The voice of Albus Dumbledore echoed throughout the court room, all heads turned in attention. "As I have already testified, Cornelius, this document is, for all purposes, as binding as a magical oath. It contains the signatures of the mother, Diana Asher, the father, Sirius Black, and a certified priest, Father Peter McCartney, thus stating that, by law, if anything renders both parents of Eva Black incapable of providing the care of the child, as with the case in the mother's death and father's imprisonment, the guardianship duties would be passed to the very capable man whom stands in front of you."
The Minster of Magic stood and studied the young man that stood beside Dumbledore. "That is all very fine and well, Dumbledore, but, surely you must agree, that for the safety of the child-"
"I believe that he is more than deserving of the right to execute his Godfather duties, Cornelius," said Dumbledore, peering over his half-moon spectacles, "and I know that he will take proper safety measures for the protection of the girl."
Once again, the minister stared at the man before saying, "Alright we shall take a vote. All in favor?"
The man raised his head to see the result. He had to make a double take to confirm what he saw. More than half of the jury had their hands raised.
"All who oppose?"
Only a quarter of the jury had moved.
The man couldn't believe what was happening. He looked at Dumbledore with disbelief etched across his scarred face, from whom he got a smile and a nod of encouragement. A rush of excitement filled him as he heard the Minister speak.
"I, Cornelius Fudge, upon the decision made by a jury of your peers," the man inwardly snorted, "hereby grant you, Remus John Lupin, full guardianship and parental duties over Eva Naomi Black."
Dumbledore gave the unbelieving Remus a pat on the back, smiling broadly. "Come, Remus, let us gather up your goddaughter."
