Welcome to my new story. I'm excited for another story for you guys. I'm also thinking about rewriting The Lost Ghost and I also have another story that will be after this one. The next story I'm really excited for. It's definitely going to be a different one for this fandom. I might post a summary for it in this story eventually. For that story I already have some chapters written but I wanted to wait to build up my stories to be more T rated. If some of you have read my other stories, Welcome Back. If you are a new reader, feel free to read my other stories and Welcome!
Notes:
IT TOOK ME FOREVER to find a title to this story. THEN, my iTunes library ended up playing Where It All Began by Dan and Shay and I was like OMG that would be a great title! The song and the story have no relation but I think that title would make sense for this story.
Ages:
Sadie: 6 in flashbacks. 16 in present.
Anubis: 8 in flashbacks. 18 in present.
This story will contain a lot of flashbacks of Sadie and Anubis at various times at the camp. So, keep an eye out for the 10 years ago and the present.
This may sound like Sadie and Anubis are telling the story from the present age. I was going for that. I'm sorry for any past tense and present tense mess ups. Ya'll don't know how many times I had tried to fix it.
Amos will have a family (I feel like Amos needs to not be a lonely uncle for once.)
Anubis's family will have names that start with the first letter of their name. I just didn't want everyone to be named after gods. The only ones that don't change are Anubis, Horus, and Osiris because I just didn't think any of the O names really fit.

Anubis's POV
"Welcome to Shadow Lake Summer Camp!" The lady said. My mom held my hand as we walked towards the lady. The lady had blonde hair that was braided into a ponytail that rested over her left shoulder. Her green eyes were bright due to the green button up shirt with the camps logo on the right upper corner. She wore some khaki shorts and some hiking boots that were the same color as her shorts. "I'm Alice Wood, owner and head of the camp."
"Hello," My mom said. "I'm Nicole Anderson. This is my son, Anubis. First year at summer camp."
"We can still go home mommy," I said.
"No," My mom said. "You're going to camp while I'm away dealing with some things."
"Why can't I just spend the summer at aunt Isabella and uncle Osiris's house?" I asked.
"Because, you need more friends than just your cousin and here is a chance to meet new people!" My mother responded.
I crossed my arms. I didn't want to be at a camp. My mom was a doctor and sometimes she traveled. This summer she had a job in Australia and she needed a place to put me. Summer camp was a good option. I would have preferred spending time at my Aunt and Uncles house. My mom said it was because I needed more friends. The real reason was probably because she was still sad to go see anyone on my dad's side since he died.
"You're going to have so much fun here Anubis!" Miss Wood said to me. "Plus, the councilors are super cool."
Miss Wood handed my mom a clipboard with papers that she had to sign. Once she signed it, she leaned down. "Anubis," She said putting her hand on my shoulders. "Be good at camp, make friends, make memories. I'll be back before you know it. I promise. I love you."
"I love you too," I said. She kissed me on the cheek and then turned around and left. She had a flight to catch and we ended up being late getting here. She was supposed to drop me off a couple hours ago but I was being rebellious and avoiding getting read to go to some camp.
"Anubis," Miss Wood said. "You will be in the wolf cabin. Here's your shirt and the cabin is just over there. You're here early so you get first choice in bunk. Your counselor Ryan should be in there already."
"Thank you miss Wood," I said. I took my backpack and suitcase and walked over towards the cabin. Ryan already had the door open when I got to the door.
"Hey buddy," Ryan said. "Let me help you." He picked up the suitcase and opened the door. I walked in. The cabin was pretty much just a square shape with about eight beds. The very back of the cabin had a door. Which led to a bathroom. The bathroom had four showers, four toilet stalls, and four sinks. "Welcome to Wolf cabin. You're the first so you get to choose a bed. The one by the door is for the counselor. Write your name on the chalkboard that's on the chest at the end of the bed."
I choose the bed in the back away from the bathroom door. It was the only one that felt furthest away from people. I wasn't a big fan of people when I was younger. Some people would say I still don't. I wrote my name on the chalkboard and unpacked my backpack and suitcase. I put all my stuff in the chest. I placed the suitcase and backpack under the bed for safe keeping. All of the beds had white sheets with a quilt that had a wolf on it. I pulled out the shirt and looked at it. It was blue and it said 'Shadow Lake Summer Camp' written in black letters and it had a silhouette of a wolf howling. I sit down on the bed.
"Anubis," Ryan said as he read the name from the chest. "That's an interesting name."
"My dad loved mythology," I told him. "At least, that's what my mom told me."
Ryan nodded. "I'll be able to remember you faster since you have a unique name."
I stood up and walked over towards the front and looked out the window. I noticed a girl standing with her parents. She had caramel colored hair. I couldn't see what her eyes were because I was too far away. The girl looked to be two years younger than me. Her hair was braided into pigtails and she wore jean shorts, pink sneakers, and a pink t-shirt. The girl's parents were smiling and talking to miss Wood. The girl looked excited to be here. I was eight years old. I had no idea that girl was going to impact my life.
"Do you know who that is?" I asked Ryan.
"The little girl?" Ryan asked. "I recognize her she came to the camp last year. Why don't you go talk to her? She won't bite. I promise."
"I don't think that's a good idea," I told him.
"Why not?" Ryan asked.
"I don't really talk to many people," I said.
"Shy?" Ryan asked.
"No, I just rather do something else than talk to someone." I told him. The truth was, when I was six years old, I got laughed at because my name was Anubis. It sounded weird and not normal to the other kids. So, I decided at a young age not to waste my time making friends.
"As your counselor," Ryan said. "I want you to make at least one friend at this camp over the summer."
I rolled my eyes. I walked back over to my bed and sat down. We waited for the rest of the campers to get here.
**Present**
"Anubis!" my mom calls. "Are you ready to go?"
"I'll be ready in a second mom," I call back.
I finish packing my two suitcases and my backpack. My mom got a job in London and she wants me to live with my aunt and uncle for my last year in high school. I didn't have very many friends at me school here in Portland, Oregon. I was eighteen so I could live on my own but she insisted on me living with someone. I was off to go live with my aunt and uncle who live in a small town just outside of New York. I bring my bags out of my room and met my mom by the door of our penthouse apartment.
"I'm ready," I say.
My mom looks at me and smiles. "Great!" she says. "We better get going. I have a cab waiting to pick us up at the airport. "Your flight leaves in three hours. We should have plenty of time to get you all set up."
"Alright," I say.
We take our bags and head down the elevator. We get in the cab that was going to take us to Portland International Airport.
Once we got through the security and checked my bags, I had a half an hour to wait around for my flight. It was a few days before school started. My aunt works for the school's office so she was able to get everything I needed set up. My mom and I sat in chairs waiting for them to allow me to board my plane.
"I'm sorry for doing this to you on your senior year of high school," My mom says. "You have to make new friends, at least Horus will be there to help you."
"Not like I had many friends anyway," I say. "Most of the guys at my school were stupid and immature."
"Well, you'll have Horus as a friend." My mom says.
"He's the captain of the football team," I say. "I hate sports."
"You need to make some friends," My mom says. "When was the last time you had a really good friend?"
"At summer camp, ten years ago." I tell her. "I told you, she left in the middle of the summer and I never heard or seen her since."
"You didn't try to find her?" My mom asks.
"No," I say. "I'm sure she has more important things in her life than to worry about some kid she met at camp."
"What was her name?" my mom asks.
"I don't really remember," I lie. The truth was, I did remember. I just didn't want her to think that she was important to me or my mom would make a big deal out of it.
The announcer says that it is time for anyone on my flight to board. My mom and I stand up at the same time. "Have a safe trip," She says. "I'll be on my plane. I'll call you once I get to London. I love you." My mom kisses me on the cheek and hugs me.
"I love you too, mom." I say. Once we pull away, she smiles at me before I grab my backpack and head towards the gate.
I get settled on the plane and pull out a folded-up photo from my backpack. It was a photo of me and the girl from camp. Her name was Sadie Kane. It was Sadie and I sitting in a tent. We sat with our shoulders touching. It was taken a couple of weeks after the first day of camp. Sadie was one of the only friends I really made. I didn't have many friends, not because I couldn't make any but I just never really found many people I got along with or didn't annoy me. Sadie was one of those rare occasions. I never knew what happened to Sadie. She left unexpectedly in the middle of the summer. I haven't seen her since. I fold the picture back up and slide it into my bag. I put on my headphones and listen to music. I continue to listen to music until I fall asleep.
I woke up to the sound of the lady telling us to fasten our seatbelts. I put mine on. I had slept through the whole flight. Once the plane has landed, I wait for other passengers to clear out before grabbing my bag and heading off the plane myself. I locate my two suitcases and head towards the exit. The flight had taken me to Brooklyn. I looked for my aunt, uncle, or cousin. I wasn't sure which one was coming to pick me up. That was when I saw Horus. He wore some jeans, a white T-shirt, and a white, blue, and black letterman jacket. It had a wolf on the upper corner which was probably the mascot of the school.
"Anubis," He holds his arms out to hug me. "It's been a couple years."
"Yeah, I know," I tell him. "I assume your parents were busy."
"My dad is the mayor so he's a little busy. My mom had a last-minute meeting at the school. So, I'm here to get you." He explains.
Horus takes one of my suitcases and we walk out to his car. His car was a golden Camaro with black racing strips down the middle. We throw the bags into the trunk and then we get in and he starts driving. The drive from Brooklyn to the town was about an hour away.
The town was called Rosewood. It was a small sized town. The population was 1-2,000 people. My uncle, Osiris was the mayor of the town. It was a quite place. I haven't really been to the town before. When I saw my aunt, uncle, or Horus it was usually in Brooklyn or in Portland. If my mom and I were in town we would rent a hotel instead of staying with my aunt and uncle.
Horus and I sat in silence most of the trip to Rosewood. When we go there, he pulled up to the house. It was a decent sized house. It had two stories. Once we get inside Horus leads me up the stairs to the guest room. The guest room was painted red and it had a queen size bed. The bed frame was a dark brown wood and it had matching end tables on each side. The sheets were black and had a plain red comforter. There was a closet and a dresser. I start unpacking my stuff and getting situation in the guest room that was now my room.
