Prompt: "These violent delights have violent ends, and in their triumph die, like fire and powder which, as they kiss, consume." –Romeo and Juliet, Act II, Scene VI

Albus had never met anyone like him before.

Gellert had sandy hair that parted over a pair of chaotically blue eyes. Haunting eyes. They seemed to be perpetually stormy; a disturbed sea of emotion that that brewed behind the stony mask of his pale face.

And what lay behind that mask, behind the brittle walls that Albus so carefully eliminated, made his heart soar.

Together, they made plans of power, plans of destruction; the rampant ramblings of two arrogant geniuses. It seemed that with Gellert, the entire lay at his fingertips, and he had the power to stroke it or crush it into the palm of his hand.

The danger was intoxicating, Albus was powder and Gellert was a flame and it consumed him; consumed his every breath, consumed his very being

So, why now, he wondered, as he stared into those very eyes that had so often haunted his dreams, why now did he only feel sadness? Why now, when they were at opposite sides of a wand did it feel so different?

The man, who was not really a man at all, but a storm with skin, still mouthed his empty promises of power and dominance, but Albus recognized them for what they were now. The dreams of an arrogant, narcissistic fool.

How did just a simple change in perspective erase all he thought he had known about this man? Was he blinded by his admiration, or was Gellert right? Were they really so alike?

He supposed that he had been Gellert's ammunition. The gunpowder for his musket, but the flame had now fizzled out. For violent delights have violent ends, and he could think of none better than this.

Everything must end in one way or another, and with this in mind, he met Gellert's curse with one of his own, the blinding ribbons of light clashing together, blue eyes meeting blue, fire and powder. Still consuming, but no longer sparking.

A/N – I hope that ending made sense. Ugh. I really love this quote so I decided to use it in my story and I hope you enjoyed it! Leave me a review?
