A Better Understanding
Summary: Yumichika was finally free from doing the paperwork for his captain! Though, he couldn't help but wonder why he had to do it in the first place…
Yumichika smiled to himself as he walked down the hall towards his captain's office. Usually, Yumichika would be forced to do his captain and lieutenant's paperwork but the soutaicho had heard and now he was free! HE hadn't even realized he'd have so much free time to spend, especially with his Ikkaku. He almost didn't know what to do with himself!
Yumichika knocked before poking his head in. "Taicho, I've-," Yumichika paused.
His captain hasn't moved; literally. Kenpachi was still sitting at his desk, hunched over, staring at the paperwork. Yumichika walked in.
"Taicho, have you done nothing?" he asked in shock. "I have been gone nearly four hours."
Kenpachi only grunted in reply. Yumichika silently walked over and looked over the large man's shoulder. Yumichika watched as Kenpachi gritted his teeth more, his eyes flying all over the paper, looking at words then looking away; becoming tenser as time passed.
Yumichika frowned. What was wrong? Could his captain not read? No, that couldn't be it; he read to Yachiru all the time… or rather, he and Ikkaku did. Yumichika silently looked around the desk for more clues when he saw post-it's with strange characters. They were like those the captain used to spell his and Yachiru's names. They were crude and strange and out of order, just barely spelling words-
Yumichika hesitated, and then he glanced at his captain. "Taicho…?" he asked.
Kenpachi looked at him with a warning grunt. He'd caught onto his 5th seat but he'd never admit it. Never admit he was stupid and weak in some places.
Yumichika stared a moment, the he grinned. "I was kind of bored today," he said, sitting next to his captain. "I know soutaicho-sama said I can't do it for you, but we can do it together; if you don't mind."
Kenpachi watched as Yumichika moved the stacks towards himself. "I can read it and you can sign? This way we'll both know what it's for and can discuss it," Yumichika explained.
Kenpachi stared at his fifth seat, surprised, before nodding. Yumichika nodded back with a smile before picking up the first sheet. He took a deep breath.
"Yumi."
Yumichika paused, looking at his captain questionably. Kenpachi stared back, looking him in the eye before looking back to his desk with a grunt.
"Continue."
Yumichika smiled. "Yes taicho," he replied.
It was the only thanks Yumichika would ever get; but he was okay with that.
End.

I was probably dense in my clues and explanation but I don't think, in a world with no technology, they'd have a name for dyslexia yet. Hell, they don't have a cure for Ukitake yet, or name at that; you'd think someone would know it was tuberculosis… or bronchitis (that's an opinion matter)
