The Nightmares parted and Pitch growled as he found he was back in his lair. He felt weak, weaker than he wanted all because of one little boy and his friends. He would get his revenge on Jack Frost and those mortals who had done this to him. As he pushed away his minions, he felt a presence he'd never felt before. His gold eyes shifted in the darkness, a figure that looked like nothing more than a shadow seemed to walk towards him. Her dress was as dark as his own robes and it clung to her form, not that Pitch noticed this so much as noticing that she seemed a lot like him. She had wavy black hair, her eyes were golden just like his own, but also had silver that rimmed the gold... though for Pitch it was mostly the other way around.
"Who are you?"
"Someone who wants to help you. I've been watching you, Pitch Black. What if I could take you somewhere else... a place where the Guardians wouldn't be able to stop you... where they could not easily reach and where you could spread your fear."
"Go on." Pitch said after a moment. This woman hadn't answered his question, but she did propose an interesting scenario. One that almost made his mouth water. To have a place he could dominate, to return to his former glory without having to worry about the troublesome Guardians... this seemed a little too good to be true.
"I am from a place where those who protect it would easily defeat me, but you... Pitch... you would reign supreme. Unopposed, and with you doing so I could finally be rid of the troublesome girls who plague me as the Guardians plague you."
"That's the catch, I assume." A soft smile graced the woman's pale lips, lips that were almost silver in their color.
"If you like. A simple truce. You reign over the dark of night, giving nightmares to all whom you please and I will rule the day. Simple as that."
"Give me a name... and we will have a deal." Pitch replied after a moment.
"I have no true name, you may simply call me Shadow."
"As you wish, Shadow. Let us bring nightmares to this place you call home." Shadow turned from the Boogeyman, he watched as a gray portal seemed to appear from the air. It swirled slowly before the two. Pitch wondered only a moment who this being before him really was as he moved with her, stepping into the portal and leaving behind the place that he had come know. The streets that the two of them emerged onto seemed vaguely familiar.
"Tokyo? Seriously?" Pitch began to have some doubts, but the woman smiled.
"Yes, but not the one you know... let me show you how this place is different." Pitch wanted to scowl and say that this place wasn't different, except that he had a feeling that this being wasn't lying to him and so he followed her. For an hour, as the night wore on, he began to see small things that spoke of just how different things were here. To prove her point, she'd even followed him to the place Pitch knew was the location of Santoff Claussen... or where it should have been. There was nothing. Nothing but pure white snow. No workshop, no yetis, no elves... No North. Had Pitch been anything like a child he would have immediately danced for joy, instead he simply stood with a small smile tugging his lips. At last! A place he could freely claim as his own! This world... however much like the one he'd left behind, was his... all his... well no, he did have to share it with the woman next to him. What did he care though? She could have the day, he wanted the night and he would have it. No North meant that the Guardians really weren't here... and no Guardians meant no one to stop him. He was certain of that at least and let out a delighted laugh.
"Yes. I believe this will do very nicely Shadow. I will get to work at once!" Shadow couldn't help but smile. She'd scoured through everything she could find in terms of legends and had come across one of the Boogeyman who - of course - didn't exist here until now. An ancient spell she'd found hidden away in what remained of Queen Beryl's home. Why the evil queen had never thought to summon help from beyond... from somewhere else had puzzled Shadow. Shadow was no fool, however, having seen the Sailor Scouts defeat enemy after enemy. The last of which had been Queen Badiane, who had powers over dreams. Shadow had been one of her lackies - one of the least important in the eyes of Badiane and for whatever reason the queen had insisted on using the gullible "dream fairies" to do her bidding. It had been one of these "dream fairies" however who had been part of her downfall when Perle had suddenly decided that he didn't believe in what the queen said anymore.
The fairy had gone to the Sailor brats, joining forces with them and they had destroyed everything that Badiane had worked for. Breaking all of the dream coffins and obliterating the queen and her plan to pull the entire world into her dream hole. Shadow had barely escaped to Earth, managing to piggyback with one of the children who had been sent back to Earth. Since then she had been plotting revenge. Only a few years had gone by, but it had been enough time for her to find all she needed to be able to create the gateway that had led her to the Boogeyman. It would, she knew, be a little while before her plan fully came to fruition, but she could deal with it. After all, the only thing Pitch Black wanted was to spread fear. So she would let him.
