Here I am, in front of the church. There is no mistake. It is the right one. I just can't remember what went wrong. What happened to us?
---flashback---
"You're late. Again."
"Gomen. We were busy, you know how okaa-sama is. There were a lot of customers and-"
"It's okay, you don't have to explain, here." I handed her a glass of her favorite drink- green tea.
"Ookini, you manage to remember my tea."
"Eight years with each other is a long time right?"
"Hai. Ara, why are we here? It's too formal...who are you and what have you done to my Natsuki?"
"Mou! relax, it's me. Believe it or not."
"Hai hai."
Is that it? Does she even remember something?
"Do you know what day it is today?"
"Wednesday?"
"Yes, obviously. I mean the date. The exact date."
"Ara, It can't be Christmas,it's four days past-- I'm sorry! Natsuki, I'm really sorry. Happy Anniversary!"
"Thank God you remembered by the way, I have something for you." I handed her a piece of paper. Not just any piece of paper but-
"The song is finished."
"Ara, Thank you. I think you should perform tomorrow night."
"Nah,by the way Lo sposerete?"
"What did you say?"
"M'épouserez-vous ?"
"Can Natsuki speak in a language I can understand?"
"Will you marry me?"
She looked at me, shocked and I don't know...
"Shizuru?"
I was expecting an answer but instead, she cried in front of me.
"I'm sorry, you might not be ready yet, if you want me to take back the words I said, I can."
"It's not that. Natsuki..."
"Then tell me. Why are you crying?" I went to her side and tried to calm her down.
"Natsuki, I wanted to tell you this but I never had the chance. I'm sorry. I just can't."
"It's okay, if you need more time-"
"You don't understand.I love somebody else."
Those four words. It felt like a sharp knife piercing in me. I didn't know what to say or how to react. We have been together for a long time. Everything was perfect. We used to be best friends. Grade school and half of high school. And then there was "us". Our relationship was the best. What went wrong?
"Natsuki, i'm sorry but please, you have to understand."
"Understand? Shizuru, after all I've done! After all the years we've spent together? What the hell happened?!"
"I don't know Natsuki, I guess we both need space. We've been too attached. In fact, way too close to let other people enter our lives. Way too close to give other people a chance to love us.I'm sorry."
