What She Should Say

by Chelsea

"Sensai... mina...

    (translation: Teacher... everyone...)
...the truth is I haven't had diabetes tests, gout, tuberculosis, rheumatism, or anything like that.
    true.
The reason I've been missing so much school is, well, the only way I can think of to describe it is that I inherited it from one of my ancestors.
Well, Kikyo would probably count as an ancestor, being as everyone's always calling her my previous incarnation and all. And the reasons I'm missing school all revolve around the Shikon Jewel, and I guess you could say I inherited that from her.
The doctors don't know what it is...
Mainly because we haven't told them anything.
...but I'm not contagious or anything.
Unless a demon follows me to school or something...
My grandpa doesn't know what to say...
    Obviously.
...so he just calls it something he knows.
Though I really wish he wouldn't pick such... such embarrassing illnesses. Most of them are only common in old people. Yeesh.
I think it makes him feel better...
    Maybe it does?
...so please just pretend you believe him.
Yes, please don't talk to him about it. It'll only hurt his feelings if he knows I've been covering for him. Who knows what kind of things he'll say...
Oh yeah, and one more thing. If I'm not at school, it's probably best if you don't come to visit me, because you probably won't be able to see me anyway.
I'll probably be in the "Warring States" period.
Hope that clears things up."
Please don't ask me any questions. I really don't know what else to say...

I was just thinking... really, how long are people going to believe Kagome's missing school because she's suffering from every illness in the book? And some of them are rather serious and/or rare, and would require hospitalization. In other words, hospital records. If someone gets concerned, or even a bit curious, there's this wonderful invention called the telephone. A quick call to the family doctor -who will undoubtedly say Kagome's in perfect health- and she's in deep do-do.

But if she says this first, everyone will think she has a genetic disorder and a senile grandfather. Now if she could only find a way to get Hojo to give her chocolates instead of sandals...
