Tessa and Jessamine were out in Hyde park, enjoying one of the few warm days they had left before winter. Jessamine hated staying in the institute, and Tessa couldn't complain as Jem was gone all day and Will was in a mood. The day was grey and gloomy, but for London it was fairly nice.
They entered the woods, chatting amicably among themselves, not noticing the wiry, grey haired man following them. If they had they might have recognized him before he attacked.
The automons emerged silently from the foliage. Drawing their weapons, not flinching when Jessamine did the same. All Jessamine had was a small dagger and her parasol, she handed the first to Tessa and brandished the latter towards the creatures.
The girls fought their hardest, but in the end they were bound on the path as Mortmain approached. Tessa immediately thought that he was advancing towards her, but it was Jessamine he approached. As he came closer he raised his hand, mumbling "Inhabilitatem ad participes facti de hac re".
The effect of his strange mumbling was immediate. Jessamine's eyes rolled back in her head as she went limp. She started shaking violently as Mortmain leered down at her.
"That should take care of our little problem," he turned to his clockwork creatures, "Unbind the girl and send her back, she won't be sharing the details of our little⦠conversation."
With that the automons sent Jessie away in a carriage and Mortmain revolved to face Tessa once again.
"I see that you haven't changed since we last met, we can only expect as much of a half-breed."
Tessa's only response was to glare at him.
"I see your attitude hasn't changed either, don't worry, we'll soon fix that," he turned back to his atomons, "put her in the carriage, we'll leave for the safe house immediately."
AN: I know I haven't updated Hated By All in a while, but honestly, no one reads it and I can't think up a new chapter. I hope you liked the chapter, but I also want criticism as well, it all helps me as a writer. Any feedback is good. As always, R&R
