Otose's snack shop is the closest thing that he will ever mention as home. It is the only place where is welcomed with open arms and a shout of displeasure. But he knows that is still welcomed into that place where he calls home.
Otose is the closest thing he will call as a motherly figure. Though he will never speak that out loud he knows that she was one of the kindest people he had ever met in simple ways such as: giving him the manju buns that were for her deceased husband, giving him a home to live in even though he rarely pays the rent.
She cares in ways that you will never understand but he understands, he understands too well. She cares in the way of taking Catherine off the street, giving Kagura unlimited access of food though she does it grudgingly, letting them still live in a home which he does not pay for.
But he knows all to well, that he though she cares she does not care about herself. He sees her smoke as if to shed all her regrets and sorrows, as if that tiny cigarette was her lifeline. Her body takes too much damage and her soul is wounded, they never see it nor does she but he does. He sees it all too well.
Gintoki realizes that once she dies, he will never see the strong and determined woman barging on his door, smoking her cigarette and grumpily asking for her rent. He'll think the place like home anymore for the woman who created his home, his tiny sanctuary of peace with tinge of craziness, will never be able to give it warmth again.
He knows that Kagura will never be able to eat unlimitedly again, Shinpachi will never hear the sarcastic remarks and he will never be able to feel her hard fist punching on his head for calling her an idiot.
He said he would protect her until the day she died, but it seemed as if he was the one being protected. Gintoki knows that he can protect her from almost anything, punches, a running car, anything except death.
Gintoki thinks that once she dies, he'll give her a decent burial, and lie her tombstone beside her husband's and he'll be there eating manju buns while remising about the woman who has given him many things, a woman whose spirit was strong and kind, a woman who gave him everything without expecting anything in return.
A/N: I think Otose is really admirable. Looking at episodes I feel that she's Gintoki a colour that makes him special cause she does really good things though very roughly in a way. I think that if she dies (this saying if the creators will kill her) the anime/manga won't be the same anymore. It'll lose something that makes 'Gintama' special.
