After repeatedly screaming each other's names, Athrun realized that it might not solve the problem he had with Kira.
"I'm invoking my best friend rights," Athrun informed Kira.
Kira blinked a couple times.
"...What?"
"My rights given to me by being your best friend. In particular, the one where I give you advice that you have to consider seriously before telling me whether it's stupid or not," Athrun clarified. "You can tell regular friends that what they're saying is complete BS, but for a best friend you have to actually think about it."
"Oh, right," Kira agreed. He hadn't known about this previously, but it did sound legit. However... "We've never actually done this before, so I don't have any experience at it. Tell me what to do."
"Alright, clear your mind. Forget anything anyone else has told you. It doesn't matter who, Lacus, Cagalli, anyone at all; just save it for later," Athrun said soothingly.
And so it began.
"Kira, I know you don't trust the Chairman, and I don't blame you. He's done some things that gave you reasons not to. I know you're very worried about what he will do later. But Kira, there are lots of people who need help. Right now, at this very moment, there are people who you can save, but don't because you're too busy trying to stop Durandil.
"You need to realize that the future is the future and the past is the past. But you're in the present, and there are people who could really use your help now.
"What you are doing isn't working. Attacking indiscrimately isn't helping the situation. If you feel someone in the place you are then is what you should be fighting against, let me help. We shouldn't ever have to be enemies.
"Work with the Minerva to save others. Even if you don't trust the Chairman. You don't have to. If you think he's going to do something bad in the future, worry about it then. Heck, you could use it as an opportunity to keep an eye on him. But don't let it stop you from protecting those who need it. What you're doing now? It's not saving anyone at all."
"Please, Kira, have faith in me."
Silence echoed over the com link as it became clear that the once again ZAFT pilot had finished.
He didn't dare breathe.
"Okay, Athrun."
