Katniss woke up that morning feeling terrible. She knew Gale and Peeta would feel the same too. Her best friend Gale was in the woods, she knew because she'd gotten up late. Peeta, her boyfriend, would be up baking, maybe even some cheese buns. There was no school today, there never is on reaping day. And that new kid that started, just out of nowhere, he would be at the reaping too.

Katniss' POV

As I woke up, I saw the sun coming in through the window, not that it was pleasant seeing that the day was finally here. Reaping day. I have not just one chance, but it feels like a million chances to go out there and get killed. My names in that bowl like a gazillion times and Gales is twice that. I don't know about that new kid though, I heard him talking to somebody else, I think his name is Liam, anyway he said he had his name in to feed his little sisters and as well as his mother. So I guess he has a chance to go and die too. I'm going to see gale, then Peeta before the reaping.

Gales POV

I saw Katniss walking towards the fence. She stopped, put her ear as close as it could go to the wire and then stepped under it. She was always really good at that. Reaping day was today…Prims first ever reaping. She must be terrified. Katniss is only here to say hi, go and talk to Peeta and then go and get prim and herself ready.

"Hey catnip, how are you?"

"Gale. It's reaping day. How do you think I am? How do you think the whole population of district 12 is?"

"Yeah, I suppose. I guess I'm just trying to lighten things up."

"I have to go, Peeta is all the way across town and I have to get ready still, I'll see you around, bye Gale."

I had this awful feeling that that was the last time I'd see her, other than visits before she gets on that capitol train. I couldn't tell her that though, she'd tell me I was stupid and that we need to stay positive, even though she just told me one of the most depressing things I've heard all week. That's Katniss, one minute sad and the next cheery.

Peeta's POV

Well, Katniss should be here by now, these cheese buns are getting cold. The reaping is coming up soon, I should get ready, she won't be here for a while.

"Oh, Katniss!"

"Peeta! Oh I've missed you all week!"

"Well, I'm here now!"

"I don't want to go to the reaping, Peeta."

"Me neither, but it'll be fine, I promise you"

Little did I know, what happened that day, changed my whole life upside down, and not to mention the other two...
