Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who
Hello folks! Today, on the 26th of August 2013, is the first year anniversary of 'Beautiful In Blue'. I haven't been planning this at all, I only just realised yesterday. Still, I wanted to celebrate, so I've written this one shot as an anniversary celebration.
Oh, and just to be clear, this is the anniversary of the TARDIS's…rebirth, as it were, as Anna.
The Start of the Best Adventure of our Lives
Anna cradled her daughter in her arms as she paced around the console, deep in thought. She absently rocked the grizzling infant, who squirmed in her soft TARDIS blue blanket and gurgled. "Oh Hope…I just don't know what to do" sighed Anna. Today was very special to her, and she wanted to spend time with her thief, her husband, her Doctor. The only problem was figuring out who could look after Hope.
Her first thought had been Rory and Amy, but Amy had recently had a baby of her own, and Anna didn't want to impose any more on them. Her second choice would've been Sarah Jane Smith, whom she was fond of, but sadly the former companion had died of cancer not long before the events of Lake Silencio. Her thief had been devastated at the news, when he tried to visit during his farewell tour and was given the terrible news by her son, Luke.
She was brought out of her musings by the sound of footsteps. The Doctor emerged from one of the corridors, his hair still damp and skin flushed from his hot shower. "Anna, what's wrong?" he asked at once, concern obvious in his voice. "I'm fine, it's just…I wanted to have a day with you alone, just the two of us, but I can't think of anyone who can take care of Hope" Anna clarified.
The Doctor put his arm around her shoulder and tickled Hope's belly with his other hand. Hope squealed and giggled happily. "Why today? Not that I don't want to spend time with you, of course I do, I just wondered" he inquired, trying and failing to seem collected. Anna chuckled softly. "It's the anniversary of the day I first returned to humanoid form" she explained.
At first the Doctor was puzzled; then his eyes widened in realization, and a fond smile tugged at his lips. "Oh, don't worry. We don't have to find someone to look after Hope" he told Anna. "Do you know someone?" she asked, misunderstanding, and he smiled at her. "No love, we're celebrating Hope as well. The guest of honour should join in the festivities, don't you think?" he quipped.
Now it was Anna's turn to look puzzled. "So you created your first body, right, and a few weeks later we discovered you were pregnant. Don't you see? Today is the anniversary of Hope's conception" he explained. Anna's amber eyes grew wide. "Ohhh…I didn't even think of that. Oh darling, you…you become more special everyday" she murmured to Hope.
Hope gurgled and blew a bubble. "She says, 'obviously'" said the Doctor, before giving Anna a loving kiss. Hope gurgled again. The Doctor pulled away and looked down at his daughter. "If it bothers you, shut your eyes. Your mother and I happen to love each other very much" he chastised. Anna smiled contentedly. "One day you'll want to kiss someone you love, you know. Because you'll be so loving…you've got two hearts, darling, and I know there's so much love in both of them" she told Hope.
They walked together to the parlour and sat beside the fireplace with glasses of lemonade. "Here's to Hope's con- no, no, that's not…um…ah! I know", the Doctor cleared his throat and raised his glass. Anna followed suit. "Here's to the anniversary of the start", he met Anna's eyes and smiled, "of the best adventure of our lives".
