Dulling Harry's Pain
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter
Harry hated going out, hated it with a passion. Everyone stared and whispered when they saw him. Worse was when they applauded and asked for autographs to shake his hand. For he was their saviour, the boy who lived, the one that had defeated the dark lord once for all, the great scary monster under everybody's bed that was Tom Riddle, but to Harry that was all worthless. Irrelevant. To Harry what mattered was that he hadn't been able to save all those that he loved, save all his family: Fred, Remus, Tonks and the many others that had died. Died for him. For Harry that was what was important, their sacrifice, but he couldn't do anything about it, they were dead. They had died for him, he had killed them.
Although most people hadn't been aware of it Harry had fallen into a deep depression after the battle of Hogwarts, his "saving people complex" had gotten on top of him and all he could feel was guilt for allowing others die when he could have done something. However the years had gone by and Harry had slowly recovered with the help of his family and friends. They loved him more than anyone could possibly imagine. Why Ron and Herminie had even agreed to let old grudges go for Harry. Harry's beloved was the one that had brought him back from the depths of depression and all those that loved Harry had seen this and given them their blessing. That had meant more to Harry than anything else, it made him feel like he finally belonged, had a home.
Though all in all Harry still hated going out. No scrape that he loathed going out. The crowds, the other people and he probably always would. He hated the attention that he got. Before whenever people paid attention to him and praised him he felt a sharp stabbing pain in his chest as though his heart was bleeding. Now he didn't feel that pain, now the pain at the most was a dull throbbing when he was truly overwhelmed by everything.
These days he remembered that although he had lost so many of his family to this fight, the future was brighter now. Everyone was free and safe and happier and content. Yes he thought as he walked into his front room to see his beloved curled up on the coach reading to Teddy, the pain was fading. Smiling he gathered Draco and Teddy in his arms and savoured the feelings of happiness and contentment that he felt. All was well.
The end.
