Opposite Attraction
"Why don't you hate me?"
Levy turned back to see him on the ground, leaning against a tree. He looked at her with red eyes full of questions, searching her olive ones for answers.
"Why should I? I owe you a lot, my life even." replied Levy. She knew it wasn't the best idea to answer with a question, but she was curious about Gajeel's query.
She travelled back to the time when he saved her from Laxus's lightning, forming his own hand to metal to attract it away from her. And the time when she solved the rune spell to allow both him and Natsu to take Laxus down when he tried to take over their beloved Fairy Tail. And when the S-class mage promotion trial came, it was him who offered to be her partner. She also remembered when they were on Tenroujima Island, the ambush made by Grimoire Heart taking all of them by surprise, it was Gajeel who stayed with her, protecting her. Surely, all these memories of him made it impossible to hate him, especially since he saved her numerous times.
But this wasn't what Gajeel was thinking about. He still remembered the time when he brutally wounded her, leaving her to hang on a tree. The way he had hideously drawn the Phantom Lord's symbol on her stomach was etched in his mind. Previously, he had wanted to remember it for pleasure in the near future, but now he wanted to rid of it from his mind. And yet when he was 'welcomed' into Fairy Tail, never had she joined the furious chatter about his crimes against them. Instead, she tried to stop it! Gajeel felt that he didn't deserve such care from this shrimp, especially since he not only injured her physically, but mentally too. He had easily broken her pride in his hand, shattering her confidence. And yet here she was, smiling at the monster he calls himself. And not only that, he had broken that trust she had in him multiple times due to his large ego. But why does she still believe him?
When he told all this to Levy, she just laughed it off and told him her reasons to back herself up.
"What's in the past is in the past." she said. "There is no point in dwelling in it. And I believe you are a changed man. We rely on each other all the time. I'm not in a position to question your trust. I know you won't fail me, for your pride won't allow it. I believe in both you and your powers. Do you need any more reasons?" Once that was said, she took his hand and dragged him to his feet. Even though she was short, her strength was not to be underestimated due to the bricks she called books on her back all the time.
It's ironic, isn't it? A man who is seen as an enemy, and a lady who is pure and naïve, are now walking, side by side, holding hands. But like people say, opposites attract.
