Author's Notes~ For my other sister, enjoy your Whispers of Love, Sis :)
It's growing later; he should have been back hours ago. She knows it, and she worries. What could be keeping him at the infirmary? She asks herself, running a hand through her short reddish blonde hair.
She knows her sister and brother in law are still awake in the next room, so she makes her way quietly out, waving a hand over the door lock to open it. She nearly runs all the way to the infirmary, through the dark, quiet halls of the city.
Her footfalls echo through the empty hallways as she runs, but the warm glow around the Infirmary doors brings comfort to her, if only a little bit. She waves a hand across the panel beside the door and it slides open altogether too slowly. She slips silently into the office at the far end of the room and a quiet giggle escapes her. So that was why he was late...
Carson has fallen asleep at his desk, head resting on one hand, other hand on the laptop keyboard. She shakes her head; he is always working himself to the bone. She reaches out and gently rubs his shoulders, her sensitive fingers working through the knots of tension that settle there.
"Carson, my Love," she whispers gently in his ear, "It's late, Love. You need to wake up and come home now."
His eyes flicker open and a slow, sleepy smile comes across his face as his clear blue eyes meet hers. She smiles back and leans down to kiss him, it starts gentle and within seconds, she is sitting on his lap and they are kissing passionately. His hands are settled on her waist and her arms are around his neck, her hands woven into his soft brown hair.
"Love, I've missed ye all day," Carson breathes deeply as they part, inhaling her scent as he holds her close, her body pressed into his. She looks into his eyes, her very soul melting, and she smiles. He thinks to himself how beautiful that smile is, and he smiles back, his signature lopsided smile, melting her further.
How is it possible that even now, he can still turn my mind to mush so easily? She thinks to herself, staring into his face. Moments later, every coherent thought in her mind is shattered as Carson kisses her again, his hands resting on her back, causing electric tingles of excitement to shoot up her spine.
"I love you," She whispers sweetly in his ear. When she is sitting here, wrapped in his strong arms, feeling thoroughly melted and safer than ever, she can almost push her past completely out of her mind and for just a few moments, she can be free of the fear she always carries in her heart and mind. She can feel that once and for all, she will never lose her Carson.
