Heroes et Scelerati

You heard your voice when he screamed,
'Twas his and still always yours,
To share whilst brethren dreamed.
Hearts and numbers, merely fives and fours.

Betwixt the fires, you watched him fall -
The light faded, and faded from your eyes.
Hush and listen for the battle's call -
It's just today, tomorrow shall rise.

Ne'er once, and ne'er again -
Your war brought life, and then smote -
You may rest, and once more defend,
And return to the place from whence you wrote.

Let them sleep, and let them eat -
They won both sides,
Whilst both had them slaughtered -
They only wanted what was right.
