Rosepaw was just waiting outside the apprentice's den, when Rockpaw walked up to her. He dropped a mouse at her paws. "Want to share?" He asked.
"Sure," Rosepaw replied. She remembered how he had looked before her accident. Rockpaw was brown with black stripes and black tipped ears. A picture of him flashed in her mind. She saw herself walking beside him through the forest.
Rosepaw stared at her former self. She had been beautiful. She was brown with white paws and her chest and stomach were also white. That wasn't what she thought was beautiful, however, it was her eyes. They had been yellow with green trimming the outside of her eyes.
Then, the day of her accident flashed in her mind. It had been just a few days after her apprentice ceremony. She had been walking through the woods, when she noticed a mouse sitting just outside of the ThunderClan border. It wasn't in any other clans territory so she slowly began to creep up on the mouse.
She made no noise, but the mouse must have noticed her. Was it the wind? Her shadow? She quickly broke off from these thoughts when the mouse began to scamper away. She quickly ran after it as it zigzagged through the trees. She was just beginning to wonder why it hadn't disappeared yet, when she ran straight into a large gorse bush. Thorns scratched her eyes, as she tried desperately to get out. She cried out as she stepped on one of the thorns, getting it logged deeply into her paw.
She finally got away from the bush and began to blindly stumble through the forest until she reached the ThunderClan border. Rosepaw stopped here, to tired to go on.
Soon, a ThunderClan patrol found her, and she woke up to find herself in Jayfeather's den. He had been unable to save her eyes, and instead pulled out a few of the thrones in her feet. She had always wondered what it was like to Jayfeather being blind, well now she knew. The clan had managed to work with her blindness, teaching her how to fight and hunt.
She knew that the clan resented her. Jayfeather especially. She knew that it would take more than becoming a warrior to finally be accepted by the clan. She tore her mind away from these thoughts as Rockpaw spoke again. "Today's our special day!" He was mewing. "We get to finally become warriors!" Rosepaw sighed. She knew what his face would have looked like. His eyes would be beaming with excitement, his tail whipping back and forth.
"Yah…" She looked up as she heard Firestar call.
"Let all cat old enough to catch their own prey, gather here beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!" Rosepaw began to paw forward, pausing to wipe away the last traces of mouse.
When she reached the Highrock, Firestar started speaking. "Rosepaw, Rockpaw, and Rainpaw, please step forward." He pause as the three apprentices walked forward. "Lionblaze, Spiderleg, Thornclaw are your apprentices ready to become warriors?" He asked turning to their mentors.
"Yes," Lionblaze, Spiderleg, and Thronclaw replied.
"Very well. Rosepaw, Rockpaw, Rainpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend this clan even with the cost of your life?" Firestar continued.
"I do." Rosepaw meowed.
"Then, by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior names. Rosepaw from now on you will be called Roseheart in honor of you strong heart. ThunderClan honors you bravery and determinedness, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan."
He paused to rest his head on Roseheart's, before giving Rockpaw the name of Rockpelt, and Rainpaw the name of Rainclaw.
Roseheart smiled. She knew she had a great future ahead of her. She was ready.
There you have it. Roseheart's warrior ceremony. I hope you enjoyed it.
