This is a poem based off of the Oklahoma Tornado, in Plaza Towers Elementary. And yes, I know, a poem will do nothing to ease the pain. Don't blame me for it.
A storm raging outside
Howling winds
Threaten to crush
Small bones.
Shelter is given
To a child
Bodies covering
Each other.
Tiny wails
Mixed with wind.
Screams
And storms.
The wind
Tears open
The ground.
Stronger bones
Over
Frail ones.
Children scream
As the walls
Crash.
Eyes shut
Scared
To see
The death.
Torn open
Walls bear
Upon them.
This
Is where
My life
Stops.
Heartbeats silent
They beat
No longer.
If hearts
Are metronomes
Then this one
Has lost
Its time.
But it is not
A metronome
Because it makes
No sound.
The young
Have always hated
Storms.
But this one
Stops
For nothing.
