Scatty was sat in a street side café in Berlin sipping sporadically from a mug of coffee, the newspaper on the table barely held her interest. It was always the same, whatever the time, what ever the place. Bad news. It was other people's grief.
Instead she found herself watching a teenage couple across the street, they were walking down the pavement, fingers entwined, stopping regularly to kiss and smile at each other. They drew irritated looks from the midday commuters how had to step around them. But they didn't seem to care, too caught up in each other. It was stupid Scathach thought, they probably would fall out by the end of the month and a few years down the line would barely remember each other. But why was it that she felt so insanely jealous?
Dragging her eyes away from their stomach turning teenage show of affection back to her coffee she caught the busboy looking at her from behind the counter. Most boys caught staring had the manners to look away, however this boy mustn't hadn't been brought up around anybody with manners, either that or he was incredibly arrogant. He gave her a cheeky grin. Scatty sighed she wasn't having a great day, feeling it was time to move on she slung her bag over her shoulder and made for the door.
"Hey. Wait a second."
Scathach stopped and glanced over her shoulder, the busboy was jogging after her. Ignoring him she walked out onto the street and tried to disappear into the crowd.
"Wait." Scathach scowled, he was nothing if not persistent. He grabbed her shoulder from behind.
"What?" She hissed in faultless German.
Grinning he asked. "Why'd you run off?"
Scathach could still feel his hand firm on her shoulder. "I've got to be somewhere." She glared prising his hand away. Before his reply had left his lips Scatty was already lost in the crowd, leaving the busboy to yell after her.
