Summary: He was floating. Who was he? A thought came to him: Canada. Was that his name? Side story to the HAU series. Set between Happy Birthday and the second half of Funeral Dirge.

He was floating. A soul was floating along in the darkness. Who was he? He wasn't sure. Did he have a name? He tried to remember if he did. He tried to remember what he was. Then, it clicked. He was a nation personified. He was not dead. But, who was he? Where was he? A thought came to him.

Canada

Was that his name? He reached for the name and tried it out in his head. It seemed right. 'Where am I, and why am I here? Am I in my country?' Canada wondered. Violet eyes were sealed shut. 'I have to open my eyes. I have to open them so I can begin again.' The sudden thought startled him. Begin again? Begin what again? Why had he even stopped whatever it was? All Canada new for sure was that nothing could happen until he opened his eyes. He tried in vain for a few minutes trying to grasp at strands of faded, almost gone memories as they dissolved all around him. Was he not allowed to remember anything else?

It was hard to open his eyes. Something in him didn't want to open them. Didn't want to wake up from this...whatever this was...wherever this was. Eventually, lashes were pried apart and he could see. He was in a forest. Trees were all around and it was green everywhere. Everything looked so tall, but he decided this must be because he was so small.

Canada was lying on the ground in the center of what appeared to be a small clearing in said forest. It appeared to be early fall or late summer. Canada sat up and looked around. He looked down at his tiny hands, wiggling his fingers and toes in wonder. He was wearing a white dress that went to his knees with a purple ribbon around the neck. Violet orbs turned skyward. He was home.

Canada opened his eyes and he was reborn.

A/N: So, this is what happened to Canada after he killed himself and before he was found by Kumajirou (and later in the year, America). Thought it would be cool to write this.
