A/N: Hello! This is Alyss White, with her very first Umineko fanfic. Please be gentle with me... I am a mere amateur in writing and am prone to flaws like grammatical errors and typos.

Oh, if this is OOC in any way, I apologize.

Please enjoy, though.

The Sun is Gone

It felt horrible to see Beato in that condition.

Her eyes were blank, and no signs of emotions were intact. She was still alive outside, but inside, she was dead, to put it simply. She sat comfortably on the chair nearby the table where the tea was set.

Battler silently stared at her, his mind bombarded with thoughts. He wanted to hold her, wake her up, and start the game all over again. He did not want anyone else playing their game.

Virgilia had just finished brushing her long, golden hair and left to take care of some other things. She told Battler to look after Beato while she was gone.

Battler regretted saying yes to that request, because every time he would look at the catatonic witch before him, he felt like he would cry.

Every time Beato tried to murmur something to him, her whole body would not let her. It hurt to move even just a muscle, and she could not do anything about it.

Battler missed those days when they both played jokes on each other.

He missed each time she would laugh at his face due to his growing incompetence. Each moment they shared under the sun, each moment they tried to beat each other.

Secretly, trying not to alarm her or wake her in any way, he wrapped his arms around her, trying not to lay a single scratch on her fragile, doll-like body.

He sensed the relaxing scent of her hair, the smell of the special shampoo Virgilia lathered on her hair this morning.

He tried not to move from that position for a few seconds, and then he pulled away, looking straight at the blank spheres on her face.

Both of them had lost their light, because the sun refused to shine.

Beato was the sunlight, one of the most precious people in his life. Without her, he would die, and would not receive any amount of warmth.

But in her current state, how can his sun shine brightly? How could he receive his sunlight if she did not shine anymore?

So he promised this: he would return the sunlight to his world. And let it shine as bright as it can.

He only needed his sun, the thing that mattered the most to him.

Fin.

A/N: I sincerely apologize that this fic is so short; I merely wanted to write a fic after such a long time. :3

So yeah… this fic is based on the song "She is the Sunlight" by Trading Yesterday. I hope you enjoyed this fic, even though some parts of this fic didn't make any sense at all xD… and it seems like the formatting was ruined a bit...

R&R always appreciated! :3
