Just experimenting with writing short fics here since I seem to be able to write only long stuff for some reason. I hope you like it anyway...

Winning had always been important to her.

Always.

Even from before Courtney was born, her parents made sure that her being a winner would be a highest priority.

They had went to the best doctors to ensure that she would be born healthy. She might not have been a test-tube baby like Justin was, but a lot had been invested in her even before her birth.

When she was born, she was the loudest crying baby in the hospital that day. Even her date of birth was perfect, being born exactly when she was predicted to be with no problems at all.

When she was brought home, she had the perfect nursery, a nursery that would only be fit for a winner.

When she became a toddler, she did everything she was supposed to whenever she was supposed to. She was perfect developmentally, physically and intellectually.

At school, she was always pushed to win. From spelling bees to jump rope competitions in elementary school, winning was always the only option.

Middle school it was the same, only the pressure got even more intense from her parents. She started training to be a C.I.T. in her last year and of course was expected to be the best and win the most awards.

High school was where all her beautiful plans for always being a winner started to unravel. Sure she had top grades, was good at athletics and several other things, but the pressure to win everything began to take its toll.

She began to do whatever it took to win and for her, "whatever it takes" sometimes includes… questionable things.

Cheating, lying, backstabbing, the works.

And she still thought of herself as a winner even though she did those things.

She decided to try and play nice when she first entered Total Drama Island, but look where it got her!

She lost! Every single season she got on!

All because she lost focus!

Duncan and Gwen… Who needs a delinquent boyfriend who cheated on you with someone you thought was your friend?

She learnt her lesson well.

Who needs friends? All they do is make you lose focus and distract you from winning.

Never again. She would never lose focus again.

No matter the cost, she would pay it.

The cost of winning would be worth it in the end.
