The cold winter air of Augusta might as well have been a summer breeze as Jack stepped into the darkness. Patrolling the northern states was his favorite part of patrolling North America, and he spent a lot of time in two places; Burgess and Augusta. He especially liked providing a snow day for the kids. In the distance he heard a young girl arguing with herself.
"Em, can't you stay at Sophie's? Mrs. Bennet would not mind and you know it... Okay call me back... Love you too."
'Oh,' Jack thought,'She was on the phone.' Jack really wanted to know this girl. He knew that she was about seventeen, and that she couldn't see him. But he really hoped that he could make her believe.
"Hello?," she said,"Is someone there?"
"Can you hear me?" Jack asked.
"Who said that?" the girl asked, obviously aware of Jack's presence. Jack flew to the girl. As he approached, he saw the girl had skin almost as fair as his own. She had blonde, almost white, hair, and eyes as blue as the winter day.
"Can you see me?"
"Well, you're standing right in front of me, aren't you?"
"Quick question," Jack had at least a million questions, but there wasn't enough time. After all, he had to be back at the Pole soon.
"Well, are you going to stand there staring at me, or are you going to ask?"
"Oh, right. How young are you?"
"Seventeen," she said smiling,"How young are you?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Jack said quickly. He might look seventeen, but he truly was 317.
"I'll tell you my name."
"Okay," he replied. He hadn't even thought to ask. All he knew was that she was seventeen.
"My name is Ella Ekalfwons."
"That is a very unique and original name. And might I say, as beautiful as the owner."
"So, what's your name?" Ella asked.
"My name is Jack," he said. He had
left out his last name for she'd never believe him.
"As in Jack Frost? Because, I actually have a crush on Jack Frost."
"Really?" Jack asked, awed that a mortal, who he had never met, could begin a one-sided relationship with him. Almost as if out of nowhere, another girl with black hair pulled into a tight bun and a stocky guy who Jack assumed to be a football player appeared.
"See, Emmett? She's talking to herself. Ella has always been weird like that," the girl said.
"Eva, why do you always put Ella down like that?" Emmett asked,"No one can be perfect to your standards."
"What are you guys talking about? I am not talking to myself," Ella said defensively.
"Ah, so your doing some terrible improv?'?" Eva said in a mocking tone.
"Alright, babe, leave her alone."
"Are you defending her?" Eva asked.
"No I just-"
"You know what, forget it. We're done." Eva said firmly.
"Eva, wait a minute," Emmett said defensively. Eva walked away and Emmett followed after her.
"Who were they?" Jack asked.
"Friends from school." Ella replied.
"Some friends. Anyway, yes."
"Yes what?" Ella asked. She had obviously forgotten what she had asked.
"I am Jack Frost."
"Prove it."
