Monkey D. Luffy had done it, he'd found the One Piece. He was the supposed King of the Pirates, the man who ruled the seas; or as Luffy and a few others liked to think the man who has the most freedom in the world. This was meant to be a joyous moment for Luffy but he couldn't bring himself to be happy at the moment not with what had happened not two hours ago.

Raftel had just appeared within sight of the Sunny when they'd been ambushed from two sides. Normally this sort of thing would've been easy for the Straw Hats, it had happened numerous times in the past after all and they would typically escape unscathed, but this time was different.

It wasn't just some two-bit marines or some cocky pirates, it was Akainu, the Admirals and a large fleet of Vice-Admirals and lower. Not only them but the Blackbeard Pirates had shown up to seemingly wanting to crush Luffy just before he reached his goal. What's worse than that though is the fact that both groups seemed to have teamed up or at least formed a truce for now as when the fighting started none of the Marines attacked Blackbeard's crew and vice versa too.

Things were going well for awhile with the Straw Hats being able to hold their ground against the superior numbers but it soon became clear that the large mass of marines were not just numbers but also highly skilled and so the Straw Hats stamina was running out quicker than they would've liked.

Soon the Straw Hats were forced into a hasty retreat using a Coup de Burst to quickly reach land on Raftel. From there it was mostly a blur for Luffy. He doesn't really know who went first or why but slowly one by the Straw Hats were taken down. The last thing Luffy could remember before waking up in this dimly lit cave was Zoro and Sanji both pushing him down a large hole and the hole collapsing on top of him.

With nothing but a grunt, despite his injuries, Luffy pushed himself up and walked towards where he could see brighter light.

Gol D. Roger had been waiting for the day that someone would find his most precious treasure. After two decades he wasn't sure if someone would or not; he gained hope when he had sensed someone enter his cave and now eagerly waited to see who it was that had finally reached Raftel.

Roger didn't like what he saw coming through the cave. He'd imagined that it would be a strong captain along with a few of his/her crew that would reach One Piece first not what he was seeing now. The young male looked dead not physically but most definitely emotionally.

There was only one thing that he could think of that would make a captain look like that and it was quite obvious what happened. This man's crew must've sacrificed themselves to save him and get him to One Piece.

"So you lost your crew huh?" Roger calmly stated with a deep frown.

Luffy jumped when he heard a voice echoing throughout the cave. Looking up, eyes turning as wide as saucers, he spotted someone he only knew from pictures from Rayleigh and Shanks; Gol D. Roger

"You seem lost kid, just wandering without a purpose." Spoke Roger.

Luffy replied with a bitter smile, "My nakama were my purpose without them I don't want to start any new adventures."
There was no hesitation in Luffy's tone just a sombre acceptance.

"What if I told you there was a way for you to save them, a way to see them again, how would you reply?" Roger questioned with a small smile, he already knew the answer it was written all over the boy's face.

The effect was instant, Luffy seemed to straighten up immediately, and his once dead lifeless eyes now shone with so much hope it would out shine even the brightest of suns.

"There is?! Please Old Man Ghost you have to tell me how to save them!" Luffy all but screamed in Roger's face.

Roger paused for a moment to think about what he was gonna do he hadn't done anything like this since the first time he figured out he could do it, he thought it was too dangerous to be capable of interfering with the past, there could be numerous unforeseen risks and side-effects that he didn't want to chance.

"I have the Time Time fruit, it allows me to mess with time in the simplest of terms. So I could send you back in time to get stronger and save your crew. Do you wish for that?"

Luffy's head nodded so fast Roger thought it would fall of for a moment.

"Good, all I ask in return for this..."

Luffy had to close his eyes as a bright light engulfed the cave.

"...that you save my son." Roger finished softly.

That was the last thing Luffy heard before he slipped into blissful unconsciousness.
