a/n: this is dave's memorial and a little before in a different opinion. what went on in the heads of those that knew him. enjoy!
"So," the girl speaking paused seeming to get herself ready to say whatever it was she had to say, "you are gay?"
The boy had to keep from laughing in the receiver, "I guess I am Val." It was silent again, he didn't think that she would have this hard of a time figuring it all out.
After a minute she spoke, "Well I guess this explains why you never reacted to Lolli."
No laughter came to the weak joke, Lolli the girl that his brother had fallen head over heals for, the girl that caused so much of the addiction, the girl that in short caused the death of his brother. "No it doesn't. I didn't because of Dave. And she was a little hore." He knew he was being harsh and that Val was just trying to help but, he just couldn't help it.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it and you know it. I'm happy for you! Someone that will listen to your rat stories. Yes! I'm off the hook!" she laughed. As did he.
"Oh I only did that once. To try to scare you off. And look now, I'm calling you and talking to you like we were friends. Yuck!" He could almost sense her rolling her eyes.
"Ok so tell me all the juicy details. What's he like? Does he have any nongay friends? Is he cute?" the curiosity was raging behind her voice. "Do tell. Do tell oh great Luis."
"Well umm…yes he has a nongay friend but I don't think you would be interested, although your taste in people is…well you know weird. A troll! His friend is Kaye a pixie." She busted out laughing.
"You say you hate the folk yet you can't get away from them! I'm in love with a troll and your boyfriend's only friend is a pixie!" she was still laughing.
He had to admit it was funny. But Ravus was different, he had saved Dave twice. And he had saved Luis, in many ways. Kaye was so used to being human that she never acted like the fey so she was ok. But she was the consort of the king of faerie. He wasn't too sure about that whole situation.
"Ok so what else? Is he cute? Come on now tell me!" she was whining. It was just her way of telling him it was cool. Why he had worried he had no idea but he had. Her best friend Ruth was a lesbian so why wouldn't she accept him.
"Well he is different. I'll let you make your own judgments tonight."
She sobered up, "Yea tonight. Luis," she paused again, "Its going to be ok. Dave is better, wherever he is. He would've liked this." She had all the reason in the world to hate his little brother yet she didn't.
"I know. Anyway, so how are things on the home front?" Luis wanted to change the subject, the last time he had talked about the whole thing was with Corny. A small smile lit his face.
"All is well. My swordsmanship is coming along quite well. Ravus says hi. He heard all about your endeavors. He thinks you brave." There was a smile that could be heard through the phone.
"Awesome." A voice could be heard in the background, his heart and mind flipped. Corny. "Hey I got to go. I'll see you soon though."
She chuckled. "Bye Luis." The phone disconnected.
