Link held his sister's hand as they walked home from school. It was always busy at this time of day, and the young man took to observing the minute details in the city walls of Midrule. His gaze rose to the horizon, eyeing the massive south wall that nearly blocked out the sun.

"So how was school today, Nayru?"

"It was fine. We did some multiplying tables and drew this in art class.

The brunette girl pulled a piece of paper out of her pack that hung over her shoulder at her side and shoved it in Link's face. He chuckled briefly, but slowly, the lightheartedness was washed away from his face. The picture depicted what appeared to Link as a boar, with large tusks protruding from it's mouth and neck and flames and smoke spewing from the sides of its mouth. Despite only being a child's drawing, it's red eyes were ominous.

"It's nice, Nayru, but why draw this?"

"I don't really know. It was just in my head at the time."

He knew he had hurt her feelings by asking her why she drew it. So he had to make it up to her, and quick.

"How about we stop by Lon Lon Creamery and get us some ice cream. You've been doing well in school, so you deserve it."

Nayru looked up at her brother with her face lit up. "I thought you'd never ask!

The sun made its gradual descent beneath the horizon, painting the sky orange. Link found himself staring out of his bedroom window, his mind wandering away from his homework yet again, focusing instead on the image of the boar. He almost wished he could unsee it. He took another bite of his leftover ice cream and threw himself onto his bed.

He looked over at his alarm clock and saw a slender figure standing in the doorway.

"You okay, sweetie? You hardly touched your dinner tonight."

"Oh, I'm fine, Mom. Just spoiled my appetite with some Lon Lon's," he replied with a chuckle. He was also lying.

She smiled back at him and walked up to his bedside and leaned down and kissed his forehead. "I'm sorry I can't see you guys much. Work is just…crazy. I feel awful and…I'm just trying my best without your-"

"It's okay, Mom. You're doing great." Link sat upright. "Nayru will come to understand."

His mom flashed a smile and nodded, wiping her face. "Thank you, Link. Have a good night, baby."

The blond young man felt the sword slice through the creature's flesh as it let out a screech of pain, even after it had been severed. Link turned his sword upside down and finished it off with a swift downward motion. The coast was clear for now, but he could still hear a voice in the back of his head. It sounded familiar.

He took a moment to look down at his clothing. He sported a green dress with white tights that were now blackened and mudded boots. Awkward fashion choice, but he shrugged it off. He just needed to hear that voice again. He felt it guide him.

Suddenly, another creature leapt down from the cliff above him, but Link was quicker, rolling out of the way and blocking a mass of corrosive acid with his Midrulian-crested shield. Rather than melt through, however, the creature's mucus-like fluids ran off onto the ground, singeing the grass beneath his feet.

He charged the bipedal, reptilian creature with his shield up and sword out, as if he were jousting. The creature sidestepped to its left, dodging Links charge, but the knight quickly swung his sword outward, catching its arm with his blade and sending green blood spewing from the stump that was left. Reeling in pain, the creature didn't expect the silver that pushed its way through its chest.

Link kicked it off of his sword and didn't even bother to finish it off. He had to keep moving and find the source of the voice.
