There are days when the temperature is perfect. Just enough sun to slightly warm your skin without breaking it out in sweat as well as not yet cold enough for the need to dig a sweater out from the corner of your closet. The moisture that floated through the air dwelled without angering a females' hair, forcing it to stand in a frizzy nest. Sparrows chirped happily, testing each other in teasing races, spinning circles around those who walked under them. These are the days you just want to lay yourself somewhere comfortable and read a good book. However, this was not one of those days. The sun beat down and found a way to roast anyone who dared step into the light, slowly cooking that poor soul to death. The mid-day sun seemed especially angered with Pucca, who still laid flopped over her sheets wearing only her underwear and undershirt, slipping in and out of sleep for the past three or more hours. At first she had been, as usual, excited. Normally that's how it went. She pounced up from where she slept, made her bed at an inhuman speed than started her day after getting changed into her day attire. Pucca, if you let her sleep the full amount of time, was quite the morning person. However…early in the morning, right when her deep dark puppy-dog brown eyes opened, she remembered why she was awake so early in the day, even though school had been out for the pat week. Yesterday, before the sun had even fully set, she was already in bed. Crying herself to sleep for the first time since her parents had died when she was only six. Pucca, now being sixteen, seventeen in only two week, felt as though she had lost this delusional game she had built around herself to draw her as away from the depression she was falling in after her parents were ripped away from her world. And, it wasn't until now, she realizes how badly it hurt. Her chest, bruised from how hard and tight she had gripped it, fearing that it would stop working due to how much it ached, heaved in the muggy room, lungs desperate for something fresh. Pucca took a moment to debate going back to bed, thinking she couldn't complain about the air if she was unconscious or going outside and walking to Ching's and staying until the air-conditioning in the restaurant/house was fixed. As she began to groggily move, she used her weak muscles to gradually push herself up, something churned and thudded inside her…her heart was beginning to fall heavy once again as the previous day came rushing back to her memory.
-flash back-
Her heart skipped a beat as she began to lean forward as she ran, knowing that was the best way to catch up with the love of her life, Garu. When she had first met him, she was sad and lonely…that's how she met all of her friends. Even at that age, he seemed so secure, making her tumbling world and feelings that were like ocean storm waves seem fixed. When meeting someone with this first impression, she couldn't help but let her feelings grow towards him, making it so whenever the anniversary of her parents' death roll around she could only think of how strong Garu was. She told Ching that she liked Garu for over all attractiveness and that ninja were her thing…the only person that knew the story of her parents were her uncles…
"And they're the only ones that need to know" She told herself, letting the smile that was constantly etched on her face form.
In her excitement, she saw Garu trip, giving her the opportunity to jump on to him, locking his hips between her legs and held down his shoulders with the palms of her hands. Pucca, something she had always done when she came this close to someone that held such and importance in her heart, giggled, giving him a kiss on the forehead while he remained pinned. Ever since they had both hit puberty, she had decided that giving him direct kissing all over against his will would be considered molest if he ever decided to report her. He was taller than her, and entire foot. His body, lean and muscular was even more agile than it have ever been, due to being able to train more due to the fact that school was now out for the summer. Hers was as muscular and 'lean' as it could get with her womanly curves now carved on to her body. He ditched the pigtails and left it short. Pucca no long wore her buns, now her hair grew to her shoulders. Right as her lips made contact with his head, she was on the ground laying on her back with Garu standing over her with his back turned. As he got stronger, his body made of hard steal, could push her off in less than a second. At first, she started to feel sad when he pushed her away, making her feel as though unwanted. So the easiest way was to start lightly giggling, keeping herself happy.
"You need to stop acting childish." He stated, looking over his shoulder. He broke his code of silence once he had finally been able to defeat a sensei that no one, until four years easier, was the one to train him to fight as well as he did. He didn't talk often to people outside their friend circle, and when he did speak, he remained still and serious. He laughed at comity, just never dished it out. By this time in their friendship Pucca had grown used to his voice, but now there was a certain cold quality he normally used when speaking to those he fought, she stops giggling.
"I can't say that I would rather not have met you, for you are the reason I was accepted into this community with open arms. However, I have remained calm far too long." Gaur paused to release a steady breath. Pucca chose to remain still right where he sat,
"There is no possible way that I can continue to train in piece with you constantly on my trail. I'm going to have to ask to refrain from this constant harass. I am telling you right now to grow up. There isn't a future between us." His words were low and calm, laced with annoyance. As he was speaking Pucca had started staring at her knees.
"Garu-" She started to say, looking up from her lowered gaze only to find that he had already disappeared. Her facial expression was still, as if the reality had not yet fully sink all the way in. All she was able to manage was to just stand there, watching the spot where he once stood.
All at once, it hit her, and the wall of emotion she had used Garu to hide her suddenly hit her, knocking large tears to begin to spill down her face that still remained blank. Slowly, she began to walk farther into the forest, along the way finding a lily that hadn't wilted from heat. Careful she picked it so there was a foot of stem for her to grip on to. In silence, she walked all the way to the cemetery towards the very edge. On a crumbling tomb stone covered in neon graffiti and dry moss, she leaned down and placed the flower down, her expression still showered nothing but tears that ran down and lip she gnawed on to keep the sobs in.
"11 years…"
-End of depressing flash back-
It didn't take much time for her to get back home the day before. Her uncles had been too preoccupied by the handyman they had been talking to about getting their air conditioning back to its working status. She spend hours of crying Pucca, not knowing whether or not it was from the death of her parents or being rejecting by the love of her life.
"Love of my life…" She had repeated in her head a few times when something felt off. Before thinking much of how the words hadn't meshed together correctly, she dosed off, face still damp with her sadness. Now, as she was still sitting half way up, something donned on her. Not necessarily donned, but crashed into her heart, that she didn't have to get out of bed until the end of summer. She didn't have to live life that had been a lie she had been telling herself for 11 years now. Smiling through a problem cannot and will not make it better…in fact, Pucca learned, that pretending that the pain wasn't there made it worse then she could have thought. Pucca through a disconnected look out the window and slinked under the covers, caring more about wanting darkness than the immense heat. The warmth quickly made her eyes droop. Before she could fall back into her dreamless sleep, Pucca flipped her pillow.
It was still wet from the tear she spilled last night.
That is the first of my fixed stories. They might take longer if I want to make them the best quality they can be...and don't worry, there will be more
