Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Challenge [Herbology] - Haste, Hannah Abbot, Someone must rant, Hannah/Luna, aquamarine, Once upon a time in a far away land ...

Fairytale

It was like one of those fairy tales that began 'Once upon a time in a far away land …' except Megan knew that she was wide awake. She had pinched herself enough times to tell the difference. Ghosts roamed around the school, wandering from room to room without the use of a door. It had been startling at first, especially on her first night when the ghosts had suddenly materialized from the back wall and moved through the room they stood in, barely noticing any of them until one of them had already passed through someone. Megan had heard that it was not a particularly pleasant experience as the fortunate boy had ranted until the strict-looking Professor had returned.

Now Megan knew better though. She knew to take care to avoid brushing any ghosts as she passed them on the corridor. Megan had been Sorted into Hufflepuff and had been welcomed cheerfully.

Getting used to controlling the seemingly free willed spirit within her that seemed to enjoy turning people's hair a strange aquamarine colour and their skin a strange and almost sickly green colour was extremely difficult. Megan always got terribly embarrassed by her untrustworthy magic, especially when it had first happened to a girl older than her that had pigtails. The girl had introduced herself as Hannah and had changed her appearance back at the wave of her wand, laughing. There had been no haste in her movements to return to her normal colouring and Megan realized that perhaps things like that happened more often than she had first thought.

Hannah introduced her to a dreamy Ravenclaw girl the next day. Luna Lovegood was different. Luna always behaved as if she were in two different places at once but from what Megan had learned so far, Luna had to love knowledge in order to be able to get Sorted into Ravenclaw. Hannah had told Luna about Megan's accident, much to Megan's embarrassment, but Luna had not said anything, looking at her with a carefully tilted head before directing her to a specific book in what must have been the Hogwarts' library. Once she found the library that was.

Perhaps seeing the look of loss and confusion that must have been sprawled on her face, Luna had excused herself and left the Great Hall for a short while. Luna returned with the book she had pointed Megan to in her hand. Megan smiled her thanks as she flipped through the first couple of pages. She sighed when she saw only words with barely any breaks. The only up was the fact that the book looked well used, which meant that it was probably not as boring as it looked.

Luna only smiled knowingly at Megan, perhaps understanding her thoughts but Megan would never know what went on in that blonde head of Luna's. Megan still missed her parents and her old friends though, but she could not go back now. Even within all this confusion, she could only really look forward like the hero always did in all her stories.
