Legend of Outset
A Zelda poem
Once upon an age gone by
There was a kingdom, grand
Awash with peace and prosperous
It was a blessed land
Within the realm there was a tale
Of a golden treasure, hidden
That brought the land its fortune
And could grant any wish 'twas given
The rumor led to envy
From the tribes beyond the sand
And so their king invaded,
To consume the holy land
His plan it was successful
And he claimed the holy power
He reigned o'er an age of chaos
From atop his evil tower
But then a certain youth appeared
From deep within the gloom
And with the Blade of Evil's Bane
He turned away the doom
He crossed the sea of ages
He undid all the foe had wrought
He joined forces with some sages
And against the King of Evil, fought
He drove out the tide of darkness
He rescued all who once had feared
But as the chaos seeped away
The hero disappeared
The kingdom soon recovered
And so all was well and fine
But everyone remembered
The lad as Hero of Time
So when the evil, sealed away
Began, later, to revive
The people were expecting
The Hero to arrive
Alas, the legend failed them
The hero simply wasn't there
And so the demons triumphed
And all were brought despair
When the kingdom finally fell
All resistance proved in vain
So the King prayed to the gods above
His people to remain
Whatever was the gods response?
How did the kingdom fall?
That tale is lost in history
That no one can recall
But still, despite the ages,
The legend has survived
And on an island in the sea
A custom has revived
That when a boy has come of age
He should, in green, be clad
And like the Hero of the tale
Take sword to all that's bad
Always, like this, the elders hope
For the young to gain the same
Courage shown by knights of yore
And so begins the game.
