Frodo Baggins decided that he wanted to spend the day with his love, Hanna Grubb. Since their families hated one another, the two of them had to sneak around to see each other. It was night, and Frodo figured that Hanna's mother would be sleeping. It made it easier for Hanna to sneak out that way.
Frodo was waiting under their favorite tree for her. He even picked some roses for her during the day, because roses were her favorite flower. Frodo wanted to do something special for her, and even though it was a special occasion, Frodo would've done this for her every day. Today, however, was their three-year anniversary.
He could see her in the distance, approaching where he was sitting. Even from so far away, Frodo could see just how happy she looked. She looked as if she were floating on air, and Frodo always loved seeing her like this. All that mattered in the world to him was seeing his Hanna full of joy and life. When she was with him, she was happier than ever; everyone could see that.
When Hanna finally reached Frodo, she kissed him. She had intended for it to be gentle, but Frodo added some passion to it. When they pulled apart, they hugged and they didn't dare let go. They never took advantage of the moments they spent together; it was rare when they happened, and they always made the most of them.
"I missed you," Hanna whispered in Frodo's ear.
"Not as much as I missed you, I daresay," Frodo whispered back, hugging her tighter. "The nights haven't been the same without you next to me, my love."
Hanna smiled. "I know how you feel. I got you a gift for our anniversary."
"You didn't have to," Frodo said as they pulled out of their embrace.
"I wanted to," Hanna said, smiling at him and taking out his gift. It was a golden pocket watch.
"Hanna…" Frodo said as Hanna gave him the gift. "You-you didn't have to do this."
"It was my father's," Hanna said. "I know you did not like him very much, but…it was his favorite and I want you to have it."
"I cannot accept this," Frodo said, handing it back.
Hanna only pushed his hand back gently and said, "Yes, you can. Please?"
Frodo nodded. "I got you something as well."
Frodo picked up the roses he had picked for her and handed them to her. He even removed the thorns himself so that Hanna wouldn't accidentally cut herself on them. Hanna smiled and said, "They're beautiful."
"I'm sorry I didn't give you anything else," Frodo said, blushing a little due to embarrassment. "I wanted to give you something that would never die, but-"
Hanna cut him off by placing her lips on his gently. After their kiss, she whispered, "But you have given me something that will never die."
"What's that?" Frodo asked, puzzled.
"Your love," Hanna replied. "Frodo, you love me as much as I love you, and that will always live on. No matter what our families think, I will marry you someday. I will bear you beautiful children and we will all leave this place and be happy again. I love you, Frodo. I love you so very much."
Frodo, with tears falling onto his cheeks, said, "And I love you, Hanna Grubb. I love you more than you shall ever know."
Hanna smiled, and sat on the ground. Frodo joined her, and held his arms out to her. Hanna fell into them with ease, and the two of them sat under the moon and stars. They should've been gazing upon the beauty of the starlit August night, but instead they were gazing upon the beauty of one another.
They would get their happy ending. They just knew it in their hearts.
