Oneshot. Very angsty oneshot about how one like Delphine handles a world crumbling down to nothing. Wrote this 'cause I was bored. Au, as this can't happen in the show.
Resentment
She stared into the mirror. She fixed her headdress and smoothed her clothes. So why, why did she still hate herself?
It was frustrating. Everything was frustrating and hard to take on. Cicada couldn't even help her. Not even in a moment alone could he stop her hand from shaking. Even when he caressed her cheek and kissed her lips, he could not stop her from trembling. Trembling before herself, trembling before her dead parents, trembling before the world, the people. Trembling before her ancestors, who were far better rulers than she could ever hope to be. And trembling before the gods. Damn it all. She used to think when she made a mistake. Now it was I'm so fucking stupid. Or Why can't I do anything right? Cicada came in. "Milady." She turned to him. "How do I look?" He walked over to her and put his arms around her. "You're the most beautiful creature I've ever seen. I am honored to be graced with your presence." He kissed her. He picked her up by the waist and spun her around in the air. "What's wrong?" He asked. She burst into tears. "I'm s-so s-stupid." He was surprised. "No. You're not. You're the smartest person I know." "Then why do I make so many fucking mistakes?" He sat her on the bed and started massaging her shoulders. "You're stressed. Just rest for a while." He continued this until she spoke again. "I want to die." He looked down at her, surprised. "Why would you say such a thing?" A single tear ran down her cheek. "Because the world doesn't want me…" "That's not true." Cicada held her close. "You know it's not. I want you. I love you." "I'm a wench, an attention whore, an evil liar…" "Don't talk like that!" "But you know it's true!" She cried. She burst into tears. Cicada thought for a long moment. Then he sighed. He picked her up and put her on her bed. "You need some rest for right now. I'll go tell Lady Gloria that your meeting with her shall be postponed." "No! Cicada, please, I can't…" He tucked her in and kissed her forehead. "Go to sleep." She closed her eyes. Cicada left the room. She opened her eyes again and jumped out of bed. She got a piece of paper and wrote one sentence. Then she stood by the window. She opened it, held out her arms, and fell. She laughed. "Now no one has to deal with me…" She hit the ground. The impact killed her instantly. Cicada came back to her room. He saw the open window and the note on the bed. It said "You know it's true." He ran to the window and looked down. He saw her bloody, broken figure at the bottom. "No…it can't be…" He ran down to the great hall, where her body was. "Delphine?" He said weakly. "Oh, no…" He walked over to her. He put his ear to her mouth and discovered she wasn't breathing. He stood and picked her up. Shaking, he fell to his knees with her still in his arms. He started to cry. "It wasn't true…" He said. "And you fell for it…"
Fin. Very sad. Of course, if you hate Delphine, you're probably jumping for joy.
