Written for the 'I Dare You' Challenge, using the character Rodolphus Lestrange and the quote prompt "War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength." – George Orwell, 1984
"Rodolphus, you should try to spend a little less time around Bellatrix, don't you think? She's starting to rub off on you," you said, eyeing your brother warily. "Give it a rest, you know where her heart lies. I'm surprised she's kept you as long as she has."
"We're married, Rab. It's all a matter of dignity and status, especially at this point, don't you see? Trust me, if I had the chance to leave, I would."
Rodolphus looked out the window. He'd been out of the house most of the night, and he knew Bellatrix hadn't returned home from whatever she was doing—and he knew exactly what she was doing—with the Dark Lord. He realized he didn't miss her, nor did he care. If the Dark Lord would take your wife at night, who were you to complain? You didn't want to deal with her now, anyway. "Can't you see, Rab? This war is peace. While he's here, I can have peace away from that ungrateful bitch. Freedom is slavery.
"What are the chances of this war ending with the Dark Lord around? Slim to none. The Potter boy could die but that wouldn't stop him from turning this world into a constant state of war. With him here, I'm at peace, and I wouldn't like for it to change any time soon."
