Happy Anniversary Pookie

I knew that Joanne thought that I had forgotten our anniversary. But I didn't. I had spent all day trying to get everything perfect. Hell, I even cleaned the apartment, and I HATE cleaning.

Yes, I had a little help. I 'borrowed' Mark's cookbook, dragged Roger out to shop for groceries with me, and then stole Mimi because I needed a dress. Yes, Maureen Johnson was wearing a dress.

Dinner almost didn't make it to the table. I almost burnt the rice, I overcooked the vegetables, and I forgot to turn the oven on when I put the chicken in. But that's why I started cooking at three o'clock in the afternoon.

But now she waited. She had lit the candles, put the bottle of wine on the table, and made sure nothing was burning. She stared at the door, straining to hear the key turn in the lock. And then she did. Click.

I jumped up, smoothing the dress over myself. The door opened. A very tired Joanne walked in. "Happy anniversary pookie!" I said with a smile, wrapping my arms around her neck. The look on her face was priceless.

"Told you I remembered" I said happily, dragging her to the table. "Sit down." I said as I pulled out a chair. I lit the candles and poured the wine. "Be right back" I went into the kitchen and brought out the plates. "Yes, I actually can cook" I said with a laugh, looking at her face. We ate, talking about our relationship. The good times, and the bad. And then it was time for me to give her my present. I had spent weeks trying to find something for her. And it paid off. It was the perfect present.

I smiled shyly as I handed her the box. I waited in anticipation as she unwrapped it. She always took her time and it always drives me crazy. There. She finished. "Do you like it?" I asked softly, searching her face for clues. She picked up the pearl necklace carefully and nodded. I saw her eyes fill with tear. "Pookie, don't cry…" I murmured, going over to give her a hug. I held her tightly for a moment before I pulled away, smiling gently. "Do you want to put it on?" She nodded, and I carefully clasped it around her neck. "I love you…" I whispered into her ear, flicking my tongue over the lobe. She shivered slightly as I trailed kisses over her jaw. I kept going, reaching her mouth. I kissed her deeply, holding her face in my hands. I pulled away, giving her s devilish look. "And now for dessert." I said with a sly smile, going into the kitchen. I came out a few seconds later, holding a cake. Chocolate ice cream cake, Joanne's favorite. I laughed at the eager expression on her face as I sliced the cake. I cut a big slice and proceeded to take a piece off, holding the fork out to her. She smiled at me and took the bite, taking the fork and feeding me. I hate to say it, but we finished half the cake before it started to melt. I rolled my eyes and stuck it back in the freezer. I turned to go back into the dining room, but Joanne was right behind me. I wrapped my arms around her waist, resting my head on her shoulder. She leaned over and kissed me. She tasted like chocolate. I smiled into the kiss before pulling away and taking her hand. I picked her up and swung her around, laughing before I carried her off to the bedroom. We both fell onto the bed, laughing.
