Derek is sitting on his porch looking out aimlessly into the distance. A car drives up and a figure hops out, walking up through the shadows to where he sits.

"What are you doing here?. You picked him, chose him, love him" mutters Derek as he takes a swig from his beer. She walks over and sit down next to him, taking the beer from him and drinking a mouthful.

"What makes you say I love him? He doesn't make me want to remember our last kiss… doesn't drive me crazy in the elevator wondering… what makes you think I love him?"

"So… what does this mean then?" he replies softly.

"I don't know… I'm not the one who's married. I'm just the dirty mistress who happens to be sleeping with her married boss" she replies slightly confused herself.

"Technically, I'm your boss's boss" he replies with a smirk on his face. "And I'm not married anymore…" Meredith's heart beats a moment, as she hears those 4 words… "we signed the papers."

"You signed the papers" she quietly mentions back.

Meredith wraps her arms around herself and slightly shivers at the cold air blowing up through the valley. Sensing her coldness, Derek takes his jacket off to give it to her.

"Don't … it's cold."

"But you'll freeze otherwise." She gets up and walks over to where he sits, positioning herself between him then takes his arms and wraps them around herself to keep warm.

"Not anymore" she replies back.

"It's getting cold, do you want to come in and have a hot drink" he asks.

"It's kind of late…"

"I'll see you tomorrow?" he replies slightly sad that the evening had come to an end. Derek had missed this, just sitting around being with Meredith made him feel content like he had not felt in years.

"I was actually… kind of thinking… that if it's okay I might just crash here?... it's kind of late to drive home… but… you know… it's okay if…."

"Yeah it's okay, you can have the bed, I'll take the couch" Derek quickly responds, glad that he has more time to take in the moment.

Meredith couldn't sleep. In the background she could hear Derek's soft breathing coming from the couch. Getting up, she softly padded over to where he was sleeping. "Derek, are you awake?" Thinking he was asleep she lifted up his arm gently and positioned herself underneath it, curling up, so her head fitted into the warmth of his neck. Little did she know that Derek was indeed awake. He softly sighed and breathed in the smell of her lavender hair that he missed so much.
