And so the day had finally arrived. He stared into the mirror with empty eyes. His mind absent for he was lost in the depths of his thoughts. He knew this day was to arrive, he knew he had to put his part for everyone's sake. It didn't matter what he wanted, it didn't matter who held his heart for she was not the one waiting for him at the alter. That thought hit him hard. The young man winced while clenching the delicate fabric of his suit over his chest. It hurt him; even if he never voiced it he hated it with a passion.

He had found the other person at the end of the string; she was perfection in his eyes while the world saw the many flaws in her being. It was almost what his father had described the relationship he had had with his mother in the past; only his illusion of something similar had shattered into a thousand pieces. She had shown him the world outside his castle's walls, thanks to her he had learned so much, and even learned to live a little outside the stupid rules of the high society, and no one had been there to tell him anything. He loved the freedom he had felt around her, but now his freedom was ripped away and he had returned back to the cage with no form of escape.

Closing his eyes the young man placed his left hand over the sink, while the other still held his suit, he sighed calming himself. Ever so slowly his eyes opened and stared at the marble, which supported him. His eyes slowly turned to his hand. Soon a wedding band would be secure on his finger, the final piece to his imprisonment.

A knock on the door broke him away from his thoughts. Straightening his back the young man cleared his throat and smoothed out the fabric over his chest.

"Come in"

"Noct, are you all right?" the young man turned to come face to face with his childhood friend. Gladio's calm face immediately turned into concern upon seeing the young man. Noctis nodded turning his gaze away, he felt so pathetic seeing how everyone immediately saw his troubles. He was a prince, he needed to have more control over his emotions, he needed to show everyone what they wanted to see, not what he desired.

"Noct…" Noctis placed a hand up stopping the bodyguard from speaking any further. Gladiolus frowned clenching a fist but sighed releasing the tension.

"Is it time?" the young man asked clearing his throat again while bringing his gaze up, but never turned to look at his companion. Gladiolus remained silent, quietly eyeing the boy. Without a word he brought a hand up and placed it over the messy set of dark hair. Noctis was about to pull away but a large hand stopped him when it landed on his back, giving him a pair of strong pats in assurance.

"We'll be with you, Noct…you're not alone"

Noctis brought his gaze down before pushing the taller man away. Of course he hadn't moved him an inch, but Gladiolus had gotten the message nonetheless. Moving aside, Gladiolus let Noctis walk through. The servants who had been waiting outside bowed their heads in respect to the crown prince as he walked on by, his gaze on the ground.

It wasn't until he was near the entrance of the castle that he knew, in that instant he knew. Bringing his gaze up, the prince looked over to the sky. He was on a march…his funeral march.

That's a wrap, folks!
