Hello, who I am is not important; my name does not matter. If you are reading this, then it means that I am dead. I am from district 11 and this is my letter to those of you who are ready for a change and to those of you who want to make a difference. For too long the Capitol has lived a life of luxury while enslaving us to do hard tasks with very little reward and food. These "peacekeepers" that they send to watch over us are more like slave drivers and it is time to put a stop to this.

I remember the reaping from last year, and I remember how disheartening it was to see little Rue walk up on to the stage as our female tribute. She was far too young to be thrown into an arena to fight for her life. She was such a sweet little girl; she would always come visit me and we would talk for hours. I speak for the whole district when I say that she will be greatly missed, but I also believe that her death will not be in vain.

It doesn't take much to make a difference…sometimes only the life of a small child can change everything, and that is precisely what happened in last year's Games. When Rue drew her final breath, a part of our district died and was replaced by something we have not had in years. It was replaced by a new sense of urgency – a sense of rebellion, a desire for freedom. I remember the feeling of pride I felt as Katniss held up the three middle fingers of her left hand as she gave a last goodbye to little Rue. It was in that moment many of us knew that she was to become a beacon of hope.

We immediately plotted our stand; one that would simply show our support for Katniss, for the Mockingjay. It was clear that once we showed our support, someone would be killed…and that is where I come in. I have lived a life that has been filled with pain and agony as I served under the peacekeepers, and now it is my time to die. I will be able to go down with pride after tomorrow. You see, tomorrow is when the victors will arrive in our district to give their speeches, but it is much more than that. Tomorrow is when the Mockingjay will rise, and the rebellion will begin. I do not know how long it will take for the full force of the rebellion to start but what I do know is that I will do my part to speed it up.

My plan is simple, I will whistle the mockingjay tune that Rue sung…and then I will raise my three fingers of my left hand to my lips then to the sky. It is the dawn of a new era, and I only hope that I can show them the way. It is time to put the odds back into our favor. From this day on, I will be known as the old man in the faded red shirt and overalls…the man who stood up for the Mockingjay.

So, I am writing this to wish you all good luck. Do not forget what they have put us through. And if you ever read this, Katniss, I hope that you will always know that you have the support of the people. As for me, I will be reuniting with Rue tomorrow and I cannot wait to tell her about the rising of The Mockingjay. Goodbye.
