Chp1: A Bright Beginning
The sunlight shined through the puffy, white clouds as the wind blew at a constant on this particular beautiful day in spring. There were many beautiful days in spring, Ness's caring mother thought, but this one stood out to her. She was hanging clothes out to dry while her two boisterous children were joyfully running around the grassy yard.
"Tracy! Catch!" The older sibling shouted at his younger sister. He tossed a baseball in her general direction.
"I got it!" She interjected as she slid on her knees to make the catch. She smiled as the ball came into contact with her glove, but her expression changed immediately after.
Their mother turned around to find Ness kneeling right beside his younger sister, who was crying after skinning up her knees. The mother did not say anything but silently watched as her children interacted.
"Hey, nice catch little sis," Ness tried to comfort his sniveling sister, "Here, let me see your knees." Tracey adjusted herself so Ness could see the damage.
"Oh, wow. You banged them up pretty bad, Tracey," he lifted his hand and hovered over her scratched knees. The girl's sobbing began to subside after this. Their mother saw that both of the girl's knees were completely healed.
This didn't shock her of course. Ever since Ness was an infant, she had known he had a gift. Bizarre things would happen around her son. The baby monitor she had placed in his room would change frequencies and pick up local radio stations instead. Bottles and toys would end up in odd places, including the top shelf of the closet—which she knew that she had shut the door to. Her son didn't learn how to control his powers till he was a bit older though, and by that time he used it to do things such as stealing cookies out of the cookie jar without anyone noticing.
His mother was just thankful he now used his powers for much better reasons.
"Thank you, brother!" Tracy hugged Ness after recollecting herself and standing up.
"No problem, Tracy!" They then decided to play Hide-and-Go-Seek instead. Ness covered his eyes and Tracy giggled and found a perfect hiding spot.

The moon was now glimmering in the sky alongside trillions of stars, and the siblings had already returned to the safety of their home long before the moon made its entrance. Ness and Tracy were now in the bathroom, brushing their teeth and preparing for bed.
"Y'know," Tracy spit out her toothpaste, "You're not very good at hide and seek,"
"Ah, c'mon Tracy! Give me a break. You're just really good at hiding!" Ness put away his toothbrush and headed to his room, "Goodnight, sis!" He called.
—
It was a mere 4 hours later when Ness was jolted awake by a sensation of being shaken wildly back and forth. He opened his eyes only to notice that it wasn't just a feeling.
The whole house—no, the whole neighborhood—was being rattled.
