The Burning Flame
Adama stared intently into Sea Rider Falcon, mesmerized by the story. He had read it over and over again; he knew every word. There was something about it that drew him to it, yet he didn't know what it could be. Every word sent sparks of memories through the core of his being. He saw her face. Her smile. Her glistening eyes glowing in the darkness of space.
That's what she was to him, a bright light. Through all of the sadness and chaos, she was the only thing that gave him meaning. She pulled him out of the dark.
Everyone had told him that there was no hope. They said that the baseship had been destroyed. Adama couldn't come to believe it. He knew Laura was out there. Looking over the book, he knew it. He could feel it. The light may be dim, but the flame was still burning.
Floating alone in the depths of space, Adama heard a sound that he was very familiar with. It was the slight whooshing of a spacecraft returning from a jump. His head shot up. Could it be? He gently closed the book, and walked slowly toward the front of the raptor. He peered through the glass, and sure enough, there it was. He buckled his seatbelt and sighed in relief. He never thought he would be so eager to board a cylon baseship.

The raptor's door slowly opened; there she was. Laura stood with her hands behind her back and tears welling up in those bright green eyes. She looked at him with such love that Bill could hardly take it. He would travel the universe just to see her face. Just to see her beautiful eyes.
Bill stood at the doorway for a moment and walked down the platform. They looked at each other with a love that is indescribable. She opened her mouth to speak, but she couldn't find the words.
"Missed you," he said. He spoke in a deep voice filled with emotion. He wanted to say so much more. He wanted to confess his love for her, a love he had felt from the very beginning. But most of all, he wanted to hold her. He wanted her in his arms, to shield her from everything: the disease, the cylons, and the madness swirling around them. He just wanted to love her.
"Me too," she said. Her heart was fluttering in her chest. It was like a bird trying to break free. It was a feeling that had been desperate to escape for so long.
Bill Adama put his hand on her arm, which quickly resulted in a long embrace. Laura's heart began to thud, and the fluttering began to quicken. Soon enough, it was a pounding that was striving to break through the surface. She couldn't contain it much longer. She didn't just love this man anymore. She felt a burning passion for him.
"I love you," She said, barely able to speak. Bill held her tighter. She couldn't fathom how long he had waited to hear those words. They pulled back, and she looked into his deep, blue eyes, waiting for a response. He placed his hand upon her soft skin.
"About time," he said in a husky voice. She smiled, tears streaming down her cheeks. Bill kissed her forehead, wiping away a single droplet. Laura held his hand against her face and pulled him in closer.
She wanted to stay in this moment forever. She wanted to stay locked in Bill's arms, without any worries. The cylons, the disease, the fate human survival. They didn't matter. Laura and Bill had finally realized that the love they shared was inevitable. They couldn't live without each other. She was the spark in his eyes and he was the fluttering in her heart. The burning flame grew and grew until it touched the never-ending starry sky.
