What's Left Isn't Always Right

"No, it can't be like this!" The girl with bicolor eyes looked at the two hands that were offered to her.

"What's the matter, Vivio? Are you too old to hold hands with us now?" The blond woman's expression suddenly sank, making her look like a lost puppy. "Where has the time gone?!"

"Fate-chan!" The brunette tried to keep her wife from physically staggering.

"It's not that, Fate-mama! It's just... you two are on the wrong sides!" She got more flustered at her mothers' confused stares.

Nanoha squatted down to meet her daughter's eyes. "What do you mean?"

She waved for them to switch sides, and they did so; Nanoha now on her right and Fate on her left.

Vivio nodded her approval and took her blond mother's hand. "Fate-mama is right handed and..." she reached for the brunette's with her other little hand. "Nanoha-mama is left handed."

She then joined their dominant hands together and they looked at one another, each trying to see if the other had really thought about it before. The orange-haired girl smiled up at them both. "When they're joined like this, your bond is at its strongest!"

"Is everything alright, Vivio?" Fate asked once the girl had zoned out and stared at their hands for a minute.

Her voice was soft when she spoke. Slowly, she parted their hands, taking one in each of hers again. "It feels selfish wanting to get between you, but... I want you to hold me just as strongly... So I can be a part of your love."

Without letting go, her mothers lifted her up and smooshed her between them in a hug. Nanoha kissed her forehead, and Fate her hair.

"Of course we love you, Vivio. Even if I didn't think I was fit to be your mother at first, I wouldn't trade you for the world." Her daughter nuzzled under her chin as her wife rested her cheek on her clementine hair.

"A human and an artificial mage, both female, wound up as parents to the clone of a Saint King. There's nothing normal about our little family, is there?" The blond laughed at the strangeness of it all. "But your mothers love you very much, Vivio."

"Umm... Mamas?" Vivio said a few moments later. "Should we be doing this outside the school...?"

But nobody would dare to give them any funny looks.
