She's gone.
The words echoed through Michelangelo's head endlessly. He shouldn't have listened to her. The thought of her… just the thought of her beautiful ruby-red eyes, glistening in the darkness, her long, soft blonde hair swaying through the wind ever so slightly… now he won't ever be able to see her again… well, at least alive. There she lay, just in his point of view. A crumpled mess of blood, vomit, and tears. She lay at the enemy's feet helplessly.
All my fault…
That's what Michelangelo thought. He should've stopped her. He should have let Karai kill him. That was supposed to be him. But then she had to open her mouth. Had to make the sacrifice. Had to let him live. The event replayed in his mind almost killed him, yet he cannot stop thinking about her.
*flashback*
Karai laughed as the smallest turtle tried to block her attacks. She took another swing at him and all Mikey could see was crimson. His vision blurry with blood and tears of pain, he swooned over and fell at her feet. Karai raised her sword up in the air, ready to kill. But, just as she was about to make her kill, a small voice rang through the air.
"Let him go!"
Karai's head snapped towards the voice. A small blonde girl stepped up onto the rooftop. Determination set in her eyes to rescue her love.
"Come at me Karai. Unless you're scared."
Those words set Karai off alright. The Kunoich charged at the small girl and from there, they engaged in a fight, completely forgetting about the injured terrapin. Michelangelo looked at the girl. Why was she risking her life for his?! He barely knew him! She always hung out with Casey and Raph, worked in the lab with Donatello, and meditated with Leo. She rarely spent any time with him, besides playing video games with him on occasion. Why was she doing this?
"Mikey, go! Now"
Her voice rang through the air once again.
"But—" Michelangelo started.
"Just go! I can't let you die!" Her eyes shimmered as a few tears ran down her face as she smiled weakly. "I can't let another person I love die!"
Wait. Love?
"No! I can't!" Michelangelo yelled. Did this girl like her?
"Please! Do it for me!"
Without thinking, Michelangelo quickly got up and hopped onto another rooftop, a little taller than the previous. As he stepped onto the next, he heard a piercing scream that shattered his heart. As he looked back, he saw her. Her eyes widened, her mouth slightly ajar. Karai's katana blade shined through her back, covered in crimson. Karai laughed and kicked her off her sword and spat on her body. She wiped off the blood on her weapon and disappeared into the shadows. And there the girl lay. Like she was nothing.
But she was something. She sacrificed her life for someone she loved. Tears stained her face as her breathing staggered. She knew she was dead. But what she was crying about was that she would never tell Michelangelo how she felt.
"I love you…
Michelangelo…"
"…"
