Emma sat in the living room, starting out of the window. Where was Zelena hiding? Was it somewhere obvious? Emma was good at finding people, she could find that witch now and make her pay when she least expected her. Emma was now filled with determination, she got up from her chair and went to grab her coat…
"Sit back down." A voice commanded from the door. Emma looked around to see her father standing there.
"I thought you were asleep?" She asked, reluctantly sitting back down.
"With you in here still angry? I know it might surprise you, Emma, but your more like us than you care to think. Your mother would do the same thing. She basically has done the same thing. I couldn't stop her risking her life, but I can stop you."
"Stop me doing what? I was just going up to bed…" Emma pretended, acting innocent. David snorted.
"Yeah, right. Your super power, that's inherited too, sweetheart. You were going to go find Zelena, weren't you? To try and sneak up on her." Emma looked down, basically giving her father a yes. David sighed, and crossed the room to come sit on the windowsill. "I know you're mad, I understand. But we can't act out of anger, it makes us do stupid things. Like going to challenge mega powerful witches in the middle of the night… or when they're about to have it out with their sister…"
"I was trying to keep people safe." Emma interrupted. "Besides, I can take her, she just caught me off guard…" David got up off the windowsill and came and bent down beside Emma.
"And in doing so you put yourself in danger. You don't think if people were in danger I would have stepped in? Emma, promise me you'll never do anything like that again. I was so scared…" David said, looking Emma in the eye. Emma shrugged.
"All she did was have Rumple throw me back a little. My ego is bruised more than anything else." Emma said, attempting to lighten the mood. David was having none of it.
"But what if something had happened, Emma? She is more than capable of…of…" David trailed off, unable to say it. "Do you have any idea what that would do to your mother and I? We can't lose you Emma, not again. How would you have felt if Henry had leapt into harm's way like that?"
"That's different, Henry's still a child…"
"Yes, Emma. And you're still our child." There was a silence as Emma took that in, the amount of love and pain in his voice. "I need to keep your mother and your little sibling safe too, but that doesn't mean I suddenly don't care about you. So please, will you try and not give me a heart attack and stay out of harm's way? For me?" Emma smiled at him.
"I can promise I'll try but with you guys as parents leaping in to save the day is kind of in the genes. Besides, the way you looked at Zelena when you helped me up, I thought you were ready to have a go too and you don't even have magic." David placed his hand on top of Emma's.
"She hurt you, of course I was mad. Had any real damage have been done I wouldn't have needed magic to show her how I felt. But I won't need to do that now, will I Emma?" David asked, raising an eyebrow. Emma rolled her eyes.
"Point made. Unless she gets too close of course, then I'm not sure I'll be able to control myself."
"Oh, you won't need to worry about that. That witch, or anyone that might hurt you, won't ever be able to get that close to you again. Understood?" Emma nodded. "Good, then I think you should head to bed. Long day tomorrow." Emma yawned and nodded again. "Suppose you're right. Night dad." David stood up and squeezed Emma's shoulder.
"Night, princess." He said, knowing he would always keep his promise to her. No villain would ever hurt his little girl again.
