Long ago when Magic folk first began hiding from Muggles there lived a boy and a girl. Both had been told by their parents to never revile that they were magic to anyone, for Muggles feared the magic folk and would run them out to town. Thus the young witch and wizard grew up believing that the other was a Muggle. Never the less there were no truer friends than the pair of them.

Eventually the time came for the young wizard to take a wife, so his father placed a sign in the village square that only magic could read. The sign invited the young witches of the village to meet the young wizard in a Forest clearing. For fear that it might be a trap any of the young witches wore masks when they went to see the young wizard. The boy in turn wore a hood and scarf to fend off the winter chill.

As weeks progressed the pair would spend their days together, unknowingly falling in love. Then by night the boy would meet his potential brides. Though he found that none of the witches were right for him. Thus he merely met them to apses his father.

The young witch's father had seen the sign and felt it was time his daughter stopped pining for a muggle boy and found a husband. After putting it off as long as she could for she felt no man would ever be a match for her dear friend, Begrudgingly the witch did as her father ordered and went to meet the young wizard. Angrily she donned a mask and went to the Forest clearing. That first meeting went as well as can be expected as both wish they could meet their dear friend instead. Though mutually upset they agreed to meet again, if only to keep their father's at bay.

So they continued dancing around each other by day and meeting at night. Soon spring came and brought with it the flowers and fireflies to brighten their nights. The witch and wizard began to open up to one another about their wishes and fears during their nightly meetings. Finally on one of those nights as the wizard spoke of how he loved his muggle friend, he accidentally spoke her name. The witch froze then asked him to speak the girl's surname. The wizard did so feeling that no harm would come to his friend for doing so. Feeling new confidence and hope the witch asked the wizard to remove his hood that she may see his face. He agreed but only if she would remove her mask. The deal struck and the two reviled themselves.

Upon seeing their friend the pair were overcome with joy. They returned to their homes and happily informed their parents that they would be wed. The witch and wizard were finally joined and no longer needed to circle each other like spellbound fireflies.
